No it's not. It's two overlapping Ls.

And is the LL in a circle, or not?

It can look attractive, I have seen some high end motors that have tailored leather. For low mileage usage I think it pointless.
There is another chain of thought to yours though. That of that the binding is to stop dust getting in. In the days of old many road surfaces were poor and dust would contaminate the lubricant used and create grinding paste, wearing the leafs quicker than wanted.

There's LL on its rump, AC logo in small letters on the side and Greyhound of the Road under its feet. There is a number on the other side but I've omitted that as it's specific to my example.

It's a lovely thing.

I don't suppose I will do massive mileages so perhaps it won't be worth it.

Doesn't it keep oil on springs and stop squeaking?

Can you tell me please what stampings are on the original mascot, and where positioned?

Thanks!

I seem to recall that having greased the springs, one wraps them in cotton or canvas then binds them in cord using an series of half hitches (french whipping). The whole process is slow, messy and tedious, and unless you are doing a huge mileage I'm not sure that it's worth the effort.

I think conversions that use the MGB steering column tend to use the VW Beetle turn indicator switch but I am sure someone more knowledgeable could confirm this.

Thanks so much for the tip. I'll get onto Dragonwheel Restorations and see what they can offer.

Hi,
What do you think of wrapping leaf springs? is it a good idea and if so what with and how is it done?

I'm just refitting mine with new shackle pins and re bushed shackles. see photos of the massive wear in the bush and pins. the shackle on the left has a new bush, on the right shows the wear.

I'm having a short run of radiator mascots cast from my original Louis Lejeune greyhound. They're triple chrome plated bronze and will be either mounted on a timber plinth or on a radiator cap, I had some brass copies of my original example made. They will be able to be taken off the plinth and to be mounted on a car if you have a radiator cap but I fancied one to look at in my house and a replica if I was concerned about having my original one stolen.

The proof sample is being finished now and on first inspection it's very good. When I see the finished sample and it's ok it shouldn't be too long for them to be available. There aren't that many of them but they will be good.

I've attached a photo of the radiator caps with my original that was copied, going to be chrome plated next week.

Some are already spoken for but if anyone is interested in having one for their car or desk/mantlepiece just let me know.
