AK1041

Hi, my name is Markus from South Germany near Stuttgart. I bought the mentioned AK1041 MK IV and I'm very happy. Unfortunately, I have to wait some weeks until the car will arrive at it's new home.

AK1041 disappeared by end of 1998. From then on it remained in a business office, never driven and without registration. Now it will come back on the road!

Because I'm an AC newbie, I would like to learn more about AC and Autokraft history. Could someone recommend literature or other sources?

How can I get more information about my AK1041 MK IV like production date, first delivery, configuration, all what's available.

Is there a register for MK IV Cobras, were I can write in? I read that for AK1041 there is a registration in the Shelby American World Registry. Is this a book, which is still available, or how should I imagine this registry?

Happy to be an AC driver now and a member of this forum.

Best regards

Markus

Markus- I would become a member to access the MK IV register details and be involved with the club.
Bob Langley is the membership secretary and MK IV register keeper.
There's a few details worth checking and getting the register up to date if required with recent changes.
Lovely photos of the car on advert  - Weber IDA's look impressive.Flat under dash, so despite low mileage has been modified a bit.

From personal experience the gearboxes ( certainly Tremec T5 world class) struggle with 300bhp+ and the sales advert says circa 493bhp(500ps).
I've had to rebuild mine and add a strengthening plate.Depends how you drive it as well. Draining and changing the atf fluid in the gearbox is a good indicator of health.
Yours may have been upgraded( the plate)  or be a Borg Warner T5  ( before Tremec took over build) ( I don't know the safe Borg Warner bhp safe bhp ratings )
Also what type of clutch & material ( ie standard vs McLeod)you have makes a difference.

Hi Markus,

I suggest that you register to the German Cobra Forum https://ac427.de/xenforo/. There are at least five MK IV owners.

And you can have a look at my MK IV in detail here: https://forum.acownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=192.0

Kind regards,

Peter

Hello Flyinghorse,

the engine was built up bei American Car Service in Düsseldorf, a well know and race experienced company for US engines and race cars. They mounted a high performance gear box from D&N, I hope they knew what they did. I guess the new gear box was highly necessary because of 650Nm torque.

Hello Markus, you can drop me a message for information exchange, I'm close to Saarlouis. Feel free to join us in Saarlouis for our Saar-Lor-Lux Cobra IG Meeting, July 24.-26.

You will met at least 3 other MK IVs and their owners or the other way arround !
Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler!
