Roller cams, etc

May I ask if MkIVs generally came with flat tappets or with hydraulic lifters and rollers cams?

Unless modified most 1985 on Ford 302 engines ( HO high output) were roller hydraulic lifters.
So that's most of the MkIv's.
If you have the inlet manifold off you will see a spider plate holding down the lifters / dog bone.

I've just checked my spare CRS (2000 on)302 engine lower and it's roller hydraulic lifters.

The logic I've heard was it allows for less friction so more extreme cams can be used annd higher rpm.
 Also the dreaded modern oil with less zinc favours less wear with rollers vs flat hydraulic lifters.
