Bit quiet on the 428 front

Something 428 must be happening somewhere

J Jones

Well, yes there is. Nothing really "new", but progress on older subjects.

Emmanuel's car is still in bare metal, but being worked on to make that bare metal wayyyyyyy better than it was when it was first made.

All the Panel Beaters dents that were hidden under the paint are being fixed. Previous repairs are being redone properly. There will be absolutely no rust anywhere. The new door skins have been made in aluminum. The car will be stunning.

My car now has a re-built 100 amp alternator (it's the original alternator re-made), and the wiring upgraded to handle the current. I still plan to install Air Conditioning, though the heat issue seems to be solved for both engine and driver.

Installing Air conditioning will require removing the engine, and at that time I may do what Emmanuel (Mr. Horsepowers) keeps tormenting me about - putting in a hotter camshaft. We shall see - the engine runs so well now, I'm reluctant to mess with it.

Sometime before Summer, I plan to make a You Tube video of my car on the road.

Solid progress and very much look forward to the 428 on YouTube ! [8D]

Classicus - Here's something to balm the dearth of 428 videos. Hope you're able to view this, and I hope you enjoy it.

This is my first ever YouTube video.

   Beautiful car, sweet music

EXQUISITE !! MEMORABLE !! Ssssso professional and so well put together !! Stephane Grapelli atmospherics, cameraman standing in middle of traffic with no camera shake, it happened in Hollywood, your first video, set up your own publicity and marketing studio, that exotic rumble at tickover, days and days of daze, diary in the bin, my dweam come twue God if this doesn't send auction prices sky high nothing will !

Thank you JJ at long, long last a fitting, colourful and now timeless movie tribute to Derek and Pietro's visions and skills. [8D]

Wonderful to watch over and over again, I love it !!

Edit: There's a new Category halfway down the Register called "AC Frua 428 now on YouTube !!" in case it becomes a habit (!), also it sounded like the great Django Reinhardt was playing too, jazz at its very best [8D]

J Jones

Thanks Paul.

Yes, the sound track is Stefan Grapelli and Django Rhinehart.

Glad you like the dreamy quality of the video.  There will be another video, featuring Emmanuels car (when it's finished) - or maybe one of it in restoration. That would be useful and interesting, I think.

Thank you for resuscitating the "Register". You've created a very valuable resouce - thank you for all your interest and efforts.

Classicus

Thanks Jeff, yes it would be interesting as well as good publicity I think as well.

In passing, as it's the first time I've ever watched YouTube properly, I noticed during playback that clicking on Settings in the bottom right hand corner then on 240p (?), instead of the original 460p and 360p options, the video played smoothly without stopping and starting as it kept doing on the two higher settings, however the final picture quality was a bit blurred. Any idea what to do to get it back to the top picture quality setting of 460p without it always stopping and starting? I use Firefox and XP....

Thanks again for the video still spiralling earthwards ! [8D]

   Paul

J Jones

Hmmmm....
It should play smoothly. I, of course, watched it - in full screen. It's sharp and judder-free. I just looked again in 480 p, and it was clear and sharp.

I don't really know anything about YouTube. I wonder if you computer's video card is up to speed. I use a MacBook that's about 1 year old, and have not seen what you describe.

The original video was shot in 1080 p, but my imovie editing program couldn't handle it, so it converted it to the next step down (760p ?).

I just spoke to Emmanuel, who was at Retromobile earlier this week. We will do a video of his car getting "the treatment". It's still in Primer at the metalshop, so it's not too late to do a video showing the car in the "early" stages of restoration.

Considering how much effort has gone into Emmanuel's car, it's very instructive to consider going "all the way" from the beginning. There are no shortcuts - previous "restorations" have all been revealed. His car will be better-than-new by a considerable margin when he's done.

Classicus

Sounds an excellent idea with Emmanuel's car look forward to it, I'll get the video card checked....

J Jones

You might also check the speed of your internet connection.

I just checked mine (I googled "speed test", and used "Speakeasy") - it's a little better than 20Mbps.

The speed and stability of your Broadband connection might have something to do with viewing video on YouTube.

J Jones

I wish I knew how to edit replies, rather than keep posting new ones.

Paul, I think I know what the problem is. It just happened to me. I think YouTube slows down when there's a lot of traffic on their servers.

The solution seems to be:  "pause" the video, let it load, then hit "play" when the task bar shows it's mostly loaded. You may have to give it a "kick" to get it to play. Moving the progress button a touch gets it going again.

Sorry to be eating up so much space with this conversation.

Emmanueld

Jeffrey, well done!

Apologies for all the problems as it's still new territory, but did a UK speed check and got Download 2400 kbps and Upload 358 kbps. Tried pausing the video until the red line was near the end but still about the same, very sharp and clear on 480p and 360p but only ran smoothly on 240p, "P" presumably standing for pixels ? Still the main thing is it works and that's what counts ! [8D]

Re editing if you look on the bar above every one of your posts you should see 4 coloured icons, click on the second one with a diagonal pencil across a page of text - you can go on editing and previewing indefinitely. You've also got Show Profile, Reply with Quote, Delete Reply.

Will add the "Spare Parts & Possible Sources" details to the Register as well.

No idea if there's any connection but could it be that your 760p above is referring to the same thing as the 480/360/240p on the YouTube screen ?
