C'mon guys,

Does any one know if the rear window for the Frua fastbck was manufactured or pinched from say a Masseratti?

I believe that my window was damaged in transit from Canada to Australia probably by the bumper bars that were all shoved inside the cabin.

I can get one manufactured here but it will be without the demister heating element.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

How about trying the Maserati Club Australia in any case ?

I also remember you saying no-one's ever heard of the 428 in Australia so one day you can quietly turn up at one of their biggest events.

"WOW !! Welcome mate ! Hey guys look a prototype Maser !! Free beer for the genleman all day....!"

   Good luck ! [:D] [:D]

Hi Peter

I remember someone on one of the Club forums recommending this UK firm some time ago. Click on "Classics" on the left hand ladder....

Sorry Peter, the only glass that is common between the Frua and the Maserati Mistral are the front quarter windows. I actually had both cars next to each other for comparison. Believe it or not, the Frua is quite a bit larger than the mistral so the glass is also much larger!

Paul, Emmanuel,

Thank you for the information, I have sent an enquiry to old school windscreens and await a response. I will keep you posted.

Just an update for you, The car is currently in Brisbane having a stainless steel exhaust system built and installed : all of the chrome work is in Coffs Harbour being copper plated and chromed : the seats are in Ballina having the runners and operating bits overhauled ; the trim is complete having found some period carpet which is now overlaying lots of Dynamat.

All in all we are getting pretty close.

   Thanks again for the help.

   Cheers

Hello guys,

My CF9 comes back today from the specialist with its stainless steel exhaust installed.
I am also looking for a windscreen.  Can you keep me informed about their reply ?  Maybe ordering two will lower the costs.

   Regards,
   Damien

This was another specialist London firm that I understand were prepared to make a few 428 windscreens last year, but I never found out what happened or if anyone bought one.

Good luck and let's know if they did make any or anyone bought one [:)]

Interested about the demister you mentioned as I'd no idea 428s had them to begin with. Unless perhaps it was for export seeing as yours came from Canada ?

Then all is well Peter. How is the header tank going along? Any issue? have you decided which way to go? Cheers

Hi Paul,Hi Emmanuel,

One at a time, my car was originally sold in the UK I believe with the heated rear window. One of the mysteries I have tried to solve is how it ended up in Canada. I am still waiting for a reply to my query from ccswindscreens.

As regards the expansion tank my guy believes with all the photographs he has seen he can fabricate one, I am not so sure as I am led to believe that there are some baffles inside hence my comment that the Jury is still out.

I believe we are on the home stretch but as we are all aware the devil is in the detail !!

Emmanuel, I will ask about the front screen as well.

   Cheers

Damien

Hello guys,

My car came back with its full stainless steel exhaust : beautifull !
I am now looking for a hood.  The prior owner has put louvres in mine one, and instead of removing them, I would like to go for a second hood, as original.
   Can somebody help ?
   Kind regards,
   Damien

Englishman

Hi Damien,

The panel beater that made my hood/bonnet took the framework of the original and reskined it with aircraft aluminium. To overcome some of the heat problems he increased the hieght of the hump in the middle starting from the nose so that by the time you get to the windscreen it is half an inch higher than original. This allowed us to increase the size of the vents on the back edge of the hood/bonnet.

We threw the original skin away as it was full of bondo and pop rivets, however it made a half decent template for the new version.

   Good Luck

There was one for sale on ebay recently...

   'AC 428 ALUMINIUM BONNET

I am selling this on behalf of my uncle who lives in France.

It has been in storage for many years after the vehicle was used for 427 Cobra Conversion. Please note there are no other parts available.

The successful bidder can collect from Mayenne area in Northern France or Junction 4/5 M25 this summer. To guarantee purchase payment by PayPal please.

The bonnet has many coats of paint on it. The lighter areas in the photos are where the paint has been removed. The 'brown' areas in the photo of the underneath are the remains of sound deadening pad and glue. One hinge pin is broken but can easily be replaced.

Many thanks for looking and happy bidding!'

Item number was 300306372061, vendor name gumacaroni.

Seems odd to have an aluminium bonnet but regardless I have emailed him through ebay asking for his direct contact details. Should he reply I'll forward them to you.

   Cliff.

The eBay Ad is still viewable at the moment, the starting bid was £200, but with no takers.
Here are the pics from the ad, to go with the text above:

So presumably this is from the 428 (CFX 35, link to Classicus` register) that was converted to a Cobra and advertised in France until recently?

Ref the bonnet on e-bay I wonder if the hinge pin he refers to is the one I am looking for i.e. the front one of a pair that are chromed ??

s06-gsikkemmbu@members.ebay.co.uk  aka gmacaroni has emailed me to say that as he has had several enquiries he is relisting the ad for another week.
