Does anyone know a source for the chrome acorn (Dome) nuts that are used to hold the AC engine valve cover in place, or what other cars of the era these may have been used on (MGs/Triumph/Jags, etc) for some purpose? Ron Leonard does not have any, and not sure where to look next? Any ideas appreciated.

Rod Briggs had some made in steel & zinc plated he may still have them in stock, the originals were brass chrome plated, the AC type are larger in height & A/F size than standard Dome nuts.
I have investigated having some made in Stainless but they are expensive to manufacture, when i have tooling done for the cover i will probably have a batch made.

It's me again, 'www.stainlessparts.co.uk' has 1/4 BSF high dome nuts on stainless @ £3 ea for Jag's but i believe the A/F size is smaller, they probably would however be OK!

Robin - do you have contact info for Rod Briggs (an email if possible)? I can check with him first, then see about the Jag alternative. Not sure where they were used on the Jag? Thanks for the leads!

Peter,
If you know what size you need, you might try British fasteners (http://www.britishfasteners.com) on this side of the pond. They have a few different sized stainless domed nuts that might work.

Thanks Jay, I'll check with them also.

Rod Briggs has advised that Orange have 'lost' his website.  He hopes to have a new one online soon.

I just bought a set from Ron Leonard in Colorado.

Following up on this post.Did you ever find a commercial source for the acorn nuts? Thanks!

I did locate some, but now I don't remember where! I will dig thru my file and see if I have a receipt that may indicate where I obtained them.

Rod Briggs (tel: 01458 273476) had them a few years back and they're still on his part list:

I know i am a bit late to respond  as lost my passcode!
Briggs did have some nuts which he made to the AC drawing, i have some special nuts which i use on my cam covers which have an extra boss to allow the studs to be picked up as i have higher covers to clear my high lift cams. These are in stainless , but you will need to drill out the cover holes to allow the nuts to fit!
