Rolling Road?

   Having FINALLY got my CRS back on the road complete with new, and very much more powerful engine, I have encountered a problem.
   
   I'd very much like to put it on a Rolling Road and find out just how much power it now develops.  Sadly, as it weighs only slightly more than a gnat's whisker the two Rolling Roads it has been on have been unable to deal with it.  The problem is that as it gets up towards its serious power (over 300bhp & 300 lbs/ft) it does all it can to leave the RR at some speed!
   
   Its been on a RR at Geoff Jeals (now in the USA - good) and at Tuning Japanese (Guildford - brilliant) and it both places it was strapped down and had people in it (even one in the boot!) but it still tried to crawl or jump off the rollers.  It was judged, unsuprisingly, to be too dangerous to continue.
   
   Anyone got any ideas as to where I can get the damn thing checked.  I condsider taking the motor out and bench testing it as a very last resort.

   You may want to give Tom Airey a call at http://www.aireytuning.com/contactus.htm
   His website says he has worked on a class winning lightweight E type for the recent Le Mans Classic so he may have experience of high power / light weight etc.
   
   Another rolling road is http://www.surreyrollingroad.co.uk/power_runs.php I have used them when I had a hi output TVR and they were able to test TVR's putting out 350 to 380 BHP and I would think there would be similar weight to yours.
   
   I would be interested to know where you end up going and how you get on.

Having looked further at the Rolling Road register, I guess it`s only just been set up or nobody wants to use it.
   Surfing and found SPC in Horsham and on their 'Hall of fame' they have everything from a 12hp Mini-motoX bike to a Toyota Supra @ 830bhp! (I`m assuming it`s BHP, not PS, as it doesn`t specify!)
   There are photos of a GT40 replica, Full race Porker 935, couple of Cobreps, JagXJ13 & XJ220, and an AC Aceca amongst many others, so they might be worth a tinkle.

SPC are based in a rather unlovely little industrial estate but they've been established for many years. They used to specialise in Porsche 911s(when I had mine... :-(  and they appear to know their stuff.

I was going to suggest we asked you opinion, due to the proximity! There`s a little video on their site of Something powerful trying to escape the dyno rig, but failing.

   My son Barry uses Northampton Motorsport for his setting up of his Lotus Twinkcam Anglia.......Steve Wooding and Troy Robinson have had all sorts of highly tunedv racers on their rollers.... Anglias up to 330bhp are small fry.

   Sorry for any confusion Baron, what I listed as "Tuning Japanese in Guildford" are of course SAS at Aldershot.  They are (also) known as Tuning Japanese (or they were yesterday when I got their invoice).  Thay are still run by the brilliant, knowledgeable and helpful Tim Enderby and they have never been based in Guildford.

   I`m sure there`ll be some results, if only to say that it was last seen exiting the workshop at WOT in the direction of Crawley! (Don`t worry, it`ll run out of petrol in the vicinity of Mr. Legate`s residence![:o)])
   
   As for the fuel tank issue, have you spoken to Gerry Hawkridge?  Loooks like the other CRS owners want to observe your efforts!

   simplify your life! You can dyno the torque of your car on the road. Just push down the throttle! If it rattles, the gears throw away their teeth and you know that the torque exceeds the specification of the gearbox! Thus I learnt my engine has more than 330 lbs/ft! [:D] In the case of rattling I recommend Tremec or Jericho Transmissions (www.jericoperformance.com).

   1984MkIV, Great, just great.  A simple and effective (if not cost effective) method of checking torque.  I need the results like I need the expense of filling my gearbox casing with VERY expensive swarf!  I'm aiming at 310 lb/ft so hopefully I won't encounter the swarf problem!

   you still don´t think simple! If your gearbox breaks, it´s too weak and you have to change it anyway. Thus the suggested way of testing torque is cost neutral!!![:o)].
   I don´t know the spec of the T50 box, which is obviously in the CRS (I couldn´t find the spec in the net). The T5 transmission is o.k. for 270 lbs/ft (the first owner of my car found out that the engine torque exceeds 270 lbs/ft). The reinforced version (which had the honour to be tested by "Il Ingegnere" itself, who found out that the torque of the engine exceeds 330 lbs/ft) is specified to 330 lbs/ft! If the T50 spec is the same as the T5 spec, take care of the swarf!!!
   As for cost neutral solutions, here the solution for your fuel tank:
   
   The solution looks very british, but in fact it is the result of a dutch-italian cooperation. The advantage of these fuel cells is a low movement of the fuel during acceleration and cornering!!!
