Can someone recommend a modern oil for the weller engine as the info i currently have is contadictory.
Also I'm ready to fill up the radiator and would like to know what mix of water antifreeze is best.
    thanks in advance.[:D]

I use Castrol XXR 40 that I bought on the internet. Try googling it. I know it is a very bad idea to use modern spec oils in Pre War cars.

Thnaks for that Keith, I've just learned from a friend that de ionised water is the best thing, and a 50/50 mix with antifreeze.

AC Ace Bristol

Hi Cassie

   Re: Engine Oil.

I run my Ace Bristol on Millers Semi Synthetic CSS 20W50,  have done for last 6 /7 years. when cold all moving parts remain well coated and when extra hot e.g. during competition the oil pressure remains constant at 60 / 70 psi, unlike the Castrol Classic tried during the 1st year of ownership when the oil pressure dropped dramatically.

My Son Barry  now runs his tuned Lotus Twin Cam Anglia on Millers Oil and finds it far superior to the Duckhams 20 / 50 he was using previously. Oil temp and Oil pressure remain constant irrespective of Road or track use. with regular 4 /5 hour Motorway trips at 70 mph plus cruising.

Please note Oil degenerates and effects engine internals especially if the engine is not used for long periods, it is therefore recommended that Oil & Filter are changed regularly.

For usefull info  check out ; www.millersoil.co.uk

Worth contacting to Rod Briggs   ;  acrod at tiscali dot co dot uk

Hope the above info is of use.

Cheers Keith,
Saw some of that Castrol Classic in our local shell garage, glad I didn't pick some up now.....especially at that price!
So it seems to be a myth that modern multigrade's can do serious damage to old engines? This is stated on The 2 litre website by Ian(?) Strange.
and does anyone know where I can get an oil filter for the post war engine.....the concertina cartridge that fits into the orange unit.... there's so many types available.

Keith
I sent to you an 'E' Mail stating that i have some useful recomendations from Miller Oils for the AC Weller Engine & data sheets which i can forward to you if you send your address to me.
In terms of oil filters i would suggest that you purchase a spin on/off filter head & use a high volume 15 micron filter canister, a new head is less than £20 & cannisters arround £7, Thinkautomotive have very suitable filter heads.

Thanks Robin, I have totally forgottn that e-mail..... I'll PM you my adress, your e-mail got lost in the long list of emails on my works computer (if it was the .ac.uk address).
I guess we've all got our funny ways and I'll have to get used to ordering this specialist stuff over the internet.....I really like to pick things up in person!!
Once again your help is really appreciated.
I will certainly require your engineering services when I come to rebuilding the old UMB1346 engine.
    Keith.

Robin - not sure you are eligible to respond to this thread. I thought you had to be a Keith to participate in this one!!
