Greetings

True North are making a documentary for Channel 5 about the history of the M1 motorway.  It will tell the story of how the road that changed Britain came to be, how it works and where it will take us in the future.

We are interested in covering Jack Sears' famous 185mph (or thereabouts!) test drive of his Le Mans AC Cobra on the M1 Motorway in 1964.  We have already been given an excellent factual account from those in the know of the events of that day and the subsequent tabloid over excitement, including from Barrie Bird who now owns the car itself.

What we are really hoping is that we can track down anyone who was there that day on the M1, who could give us a first hand account and I am reaching out to the members of this forum for any help that can be offered in this regard.

Aside from the AC Cobra connection, we would also be interested in speaking to anyone who drove on the M1 in the first few days it was open or who has any great M1 stories to tell.

Thank you for your help.

Kind regards
Matt

The programme is scheduled for broadcast on Wednesday 8 August on Channel 5 at 9pm.  Barrie notes "there might be the odd few seconds of A98 trundling about at 40 mph" and also "the unsung  Heroine and Hero of the epic run south to Watford Gap deserve a mention - Alison Hildreth and David Sanderson, who acted as navigator and chase pilot respectively".
