Early flat-screen demister vents

10 years ago (!) I posted a thread on this forum about the demister vents on an early flat-screen Ace. I think I have finally found someone who can make them if I can get either pictures or drawings or both. These early cars had vents that were sort of a rectangular block with the vent on top. Seem most cars didn't have this option, I seem to have a 'highly' optioned car with heater, demister vents, and windscreen washer!

Anyone out there with one of these early Aces that can supply pictures or drawings?

I have some new die castings for the early heater vents. They are made in two pieces that sandwich the scuttle panel between them,a specially moulded rubber elbow then connects the lower castings to corrugated tubes going to the heater.I'm afraid I don't have the rubber parts, I was going to have them 3D printed but unfortunately it turned out to be prohibitively expensive.

Luke, do you have my pictures/drawings of the original vents? Someone actually provided some drawings quite a few years ago to me, but between PC swaps and disc crashes I'm afraid they have been lost to time.

Luke, could you also post or email pics of what you can supply? Thanks!

Peter, I don't have any drawings for these parts. I restored an Ace a couple of years ago that was fitted with these vents & I thought it was a good opportunity to have some moulds taken from the original parts while they were removed from the car.

I'll email you some photos of the original setup & of the new castings.

Luke,
Do you still have any of the delisted vents for an early Ace?  I have found pictures of my car before it was restored with them fitted.
My car AE 71 also has washers flitted in this picture.  Do either of you know whether these would have been options in early 1955 when the car was built?
Thanks Nigel

Hello Nigel,

Heaters were certainly an option from quite early on but I don't have a date.
The car that I took the pattern from was an early 1957 car. I do still have a pair
of casting for the early vents. If you PM me your email I'll send you some photos.
As I said back in 2017 the vents are in three parts but I didn't reproduce the duct
to vent rubber section, so you'll have to fabricate something up there. It's an ideal
project for 3d printing in a suitable plastic.

The screen washer was also an option with the flat screen and a single central washer
with a double nozzle seems to have been the works normal fitment. The washer bottle and jet
was usually a period glass Lucas Screenjet unit.

Regards Luke.

My car (AEX127) is also fitted with the windscreen washer option, and has two separate nozzles for the washer.

Thanks Peter,

Can I ask where the washer control is located on your car and others yo7 may have seen.  The control for mine has been located behind the dash where it is not visible,  I assume as the person doing the restoration 20 years ago decided they were not original to the car.

Regards

Nigel

Nigel, mine is incorporated right into the dash. I will get a picture and post.

Nigel, here's a picture that I hope helps. My washer knob is the long black handle just to the left of the ignition switch. For some reason the image won't show up in the post, so including the link.
