Carb or ignition?

My 428 refuses to rev past 3750 rpm!  i replaced the holley which was warped with an edelbrock on the advice of Peter Knight with no improvement. so have now replaced fuel lines and fuel pump but problem still persists.  I have had the car on a rolling road to try and determine the cause without success.  it pulls strongly until the revs reach 3750 and then backfires and dies - does anyone have any ideas of where i need to go next in tracing the problem?

Hi, make sure your in line petrol filter is of the larger size. Not enough flow in the smaller one when you go fast. Had the opposite problem a few months back, rubbish at low revs, ok after 2000 but that was just timing and points gap. Found the points very hard to get right with feeler gauges, could only get them set properly with a dwell meter.

I would be interested to know if this problem was solved and what was causing it. I would have guessed the ignition was not advancing as the revs increased.

Hi Ted, you are right! I replaced the distributer and coil and it solved the problem.
