IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM SUMMER CAR FESTIVAL, SUNDAY AUGUST 27TH

National Day this year will be at this Summer Car Festival at Duxford, situated at Junction 10 on the M11 just outside Cambridge so access is easy from most parts of the country.  This a very popular event and the Museum itself, of course, is immensely interesting.  You are likely to see some wonderful flying - if you are feeling rich you could have a flight in a Spitfire, or maybe just a simulator.

As yet we do not have a plan for Saturday, but if you want to make a weekend of it we would arrange a drive into Suffolk (nice restaurant for lunch) or you could visit Cambridge (punt on the Cam) or Ely (wonderful stained glass and misericords).

There could be a Barbecue at Burntwood End on the Saturday evening.

There is plenty of accommodation close by for anyone wishing to stay over.

Entrance to the Museum on Sunday will be by payment at the gate (special reduced rate) but please let me know if you are interested in a Saturday programme as soon as possible.

UPDATE

SUNDAY - as in the earlier post but it will be important to let me know if you are coming so we can secure enough space.
WE WILL NEED TO KNOW NUMBERS

   SATURDAY
For those who wish to make a weekend of it we plan a gentle drive through the fens to see something of the drainage system that keeps the sea at bay.
Starting at Anglesey Abbey near Cambridge we drive to  Streatham Old Engine
( 25ft beam engine driving 37ft waterwheel lift ing 150 tons water per minute ) , then to Ely (once an island,  very fine cathedral ) and then follow the main rivers and drainage channels to Denver Sluice , where there is a nice looking pub for lunch.
Then a quicker drive through Thetford Forest for an evening barbeque or something  at Burntwod End near Saffron Walden CB10 1XE
There is plenty of accommodation close by for overnight stays
AGAIN WE NEED TO KNOW NUMBERS FOR THE BARBEQUE

Thanks so much for organizing.  Jean and I would love to join on both days, including the barbecue.  We will bring two cars so that Jean does not have to suffer the discomfort  of motoring AC style!

Thank you Keith, we're looking forward to showing you all a bit of the fens
David is pleased to have an excuse for organising beer so we'll be OK on that one, bottle perhaps ?
And thanks Peter, you're on the list ! As you'll have seen we were  not able to organise a hotel so you'll need to look for B&B around Saffron Walden. Let me know if you have problems

That's good Peter
Sorry not to have been able to arrange a hotel for the event but impossible with short notice - and they prefer weddings anyway !
If anyone has problems olease let me know, also it might be helpful to know where you all  find accommodation
A further development is that Clive and I are driving a route tomorrow so you are not off the tulip hook

A further develpment
A few of you have asked if anything is happening on the Friday evening
So I've booked a table at The Cricketers, Clavering, 15 or 20 minutes from Saffron Walden
It's an excellent pub, owned by Jamie Oliver's Mum and Dad and they would look after us very well
For those looking for accommodation they also have rooms and as of today have 12 available for our weekend
Please let me know directly by e-mail if this interests you

Would so love to be at this. Have a tipple on my behalf and Grandads' memory Sam Wightman who was integral in its design and build at Buckland Bodyworks
