Just trying to identify what heater unit was used in my 87 AC Mk IV.  It seems to be a Ford based on the plastic plate located on its right side but cannot find anything like it on the net.

Pics attached are from when it underwent a major rebuild and shows the heater unit under the dash.  It's a big chunky thing that Ideally I would like to get rid of and replace with something smaller as I'm sure these were not used in any other Cobra builds that I can see.

On that note if I pull it out what replacement heater unit is best for these cars?

Any suggestions welcomed :)

What you have is the Granada dual cage blower combined with a Heatee cord we defined on an former thread.

There are different solutions:
Buy a aftermarked kit car unit or build the smaller Lightweight unit by yourself or order it from the original supplier.
Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler!

I was recently looking at these ( mini folk use them) as a solution to a car I'm working on atm. It is a recirculating heater ( no duct/ trunking from the front) but has  demist  outlets  and directional flaps and is 3.5kw.

It's compact but not original, and would work if your changing the dash layout/ removing the original heater cables

I always thought a heater not needed in Oz but i do recall Geof Dowdle fitting a Clayton to his Bristol 400 so guess it does get cold at night/ early am.

Thanks for the feedback guys. It most definitely gets cold here in Melbourne in Autumn and winter.  Woke up to a lovely sunny 5 Deg C morning today. Our local club has a fun run in June it calls the 'Brass Monkey' run and it has nothing to do with monkeys :)
