Hello,

can someone shed some light on the AK2000 - AK2003 suffixes? What does the 2 mean?

Thanks, Uwe

ak1234

My understanding is AK is the last 7 and 6 digit is the serial # and then the last 5 digits are the consecutive serial # For example the last 7 on my car is AK17234 ... so my car would be called AK1234.

The digit in question is the first ,,2" instead of the normal ,,1" most of the # start with.

I supported the sale of AK ,,2"002 and the new owner really enjoy the car.

It is a special one with aluminum hardtop, AC 289 Sports dash and doors, ordered this way directly from the factory by the first owner.

Moin Uwe, laut der 2023er AC MK IV Registry von Jeff Gagnon ist wurde AK 2002 eine "Renumbered" AK 1431.
Ich zitiere:
AK 1431 Serial number not used, as per ACOC (ENG). Renumbered AK 2002.

Moin, as far as everything was clear, it was also in the old documents. I wanted to know what the suffix 2 at the beginning of the number stands for. All "old" numbers start with "1".
Did you simply name the other cars "new" from 2000 or why does the chassis say AK 2002 but the VIN doesn't show a "2"?

Dear All,

In a non similar but related note, I passed the French Bis-annual legal control of my AK1317 recently.
The guy was having a go at me in the sense that our AK do not have a cold mark on the frame of the car of the entire VIN registration number but only the 4 numbers of the AK number i.e. 1317  for my AK1317.

The entire VIN is cold marked on a small plate, but this plate is riveted (and thus not considered as unchangeable), in my case , in the car just behind the windscreen.

The guy was arguing that this was not normal as Jaguars and other antic cars from the same period do have the VIN  cold-marked on the frame.

Does anyone know why AC/Autokraft did not cold-mark the VIN on the Frame .

Many thanks for your feedback

All I know is I have AK2003.  I don't know why it was numbered that way.

Look at the chassis crossmember at the front of the car and you will find some stampings there
