Still hoping for a bit of advice on Acecas - I'm also looking at AE805 which is currently for sale.
How easy are these cars to live with - what's the spares situation for the CLBN AC engine, or the 'lightweight' gearbox?
Thanks
Roger

Hi, how easy they are to live with depends on certain things. Being handy with the spanners is, I would say, essential. It also depends on what you intend to use it for.
Having said that, they are wonderful cars and the one that I recently sold was in the family for 30 years and was used across many countries in Europe. It proved to be a superb touring car with enough space for camping gear! Lock it up and walk away, not like an open car. If it starts chucking it down, turn on the wiper and on you go.
With Messers Woolmer and Briggs out there, the spares/advice/help should be no problem, and the club holds a wealth of knowledge.
They are sometimes difficult to work on. The rear 'axle' area is very confined and they are a coach-build car so measurable, but not perceivable difference can be found from car to car.

I'm still happy to talk all things Aceca if you'd like to give me a call. I'm currently engaged in chassis up rebuilds on both Ford & AC engined versions.

I also had a look at AE805 a few years ago whilst it was being restored by AC Heritage.

The lightweight gearbox has the same internals as a Triumph TR3 in a magnesium alloy main casing. The bell housing is a separate AC casting but the gear change remote & tail housing are both standard TR3 parts. All the gearbox parts are available from Rimmer Bros or other Triumph specialists.

Thanks Luke, and thanks for the good advice via pms.
It's annoying when a dealer who is selling a car at that price automatically assumes it has a Moss box...
As mentioned, if the situation changes I'll give you a ring.
