289 Register had over 30 cars across the weekend, including 1 from Germany and 1 that slightly caught fire on the way there...[:I]

Nik i've seen the photos, Looked like a very impressive turn out for the 289R and 6107 turned up again were there any other Originals there?

   Went along on the Friday and had a very pleasant day, extremely well organised as usual by David Skittles.
   
   Short of dragging members kicking and screaming to the event I don't really see what more could be done to increase attendance, well publicised in ACtion and on this forum - I suspect the cost of entry is an issue but this would be the same for all clubs of course.
   
   Keep up the good work David and good luck with getting the car sorted  !

Unfortunately I could not make It this year as it clashed with the UK Paramotor championships.  I got home on the Friday after a LONG comp...  My car is also having a Heart transplant at the moment otherwise I would have brought her up...

We took my red Mk IV on the Saturday, which completed the shameful four car line up. Incredibly disappointing that so few AC owners seemingly have no interest in promoting their own AC or the AC club,. I also had plenty of excuses about why I couldn't be there, but decided to make the effort. Compared to the other car clubs, our number was I think the lowest of any car club there. What a travesty. Other specialist car clubs had a minimum of twenty cars, with the once great AC  now well on its way to being forgotten by the public,

Mike, you have often posted in frustration and I cannot help thinking that the 'Cobra' experience you are looking for would have been better served with the purchase and build up of a kit. You are an incredibly gifted engineer and I spent several minutes admiring the hood and rear screen on your car and was glad it was there. Perhaps some of us are just not as appreciative of AC ownership as we once were. Personally, I tire of people at car shows asking whether or not it is a 'real one' and then loudly tapping my aluminum panels so as to prove the point. My favorite reply is 'What do you mean by a real one? The 289 Register members are incredibly enthusiastic and, to the general public, represent the 'AC' community incredibly well. I am happy to embrace kits and admire the highly skilled work that has gone into them in some cases. I must admit to seriously considering a Hawk Mk11 road car as an all year round daily corrosion free driver. What is the 289 Register's magic ingredient? If they are attracting owners of genuine cars then maybe we would all be better off collaborating with each other. I remember a Hawk Ace appearing on the ACOC stand a couple of years back at the NEC for example. What I did note at Silverstone was the 289 boys making a very clear distinction between their kits and being highly appreciative of the real item on a different level i.e. the purple car. I suspect many general car enthusiasts there came away with a very strong impression of the AC brand and know a kit from a real car at 10 paces like the rest of us.

Thanks for the kind words, Steve, and it was great to finally meet you! I feel the 289Register have a greater respect for the history of the (Ace &) Cobra and represent AC well.
   As well as Stewart's AC289 this year,We have had a number of great original cars over the last few years, including COB6008(Kevin Kivlochan's), Keith's Ace, Gerry's MkIV, Dad's Greyhound(!!!), and a couple more I can't call to mind right now. This year, Ernie & Elaine Nagamatsu visited us and were an absolute delight to spend time with, and Sam Thomas visited with Andy Dee-Crowne, who despite being a Corvette owner, was made equally welcome!

   I enjoy aspects of both clubs, and am pleased to be associated with them. Now let's get our cars out and share them with the hundreds (even thousands) of enthusiasts who want to get 'up close & personal' with them!
