I recently photographed a Daytona Cobra owned by Leo Voyazides, the car is classed as a "continuation" car , which was built from scratch by the guys who looks after his cars, but has a chassis no ,which was apparently bought from Carroll Shelby many years ago ! So what is this car ? A built from scrath continuation replica ? [:(]

Cobra Ned

Aaron, when Carroll was alive, he occasionally bought tired Cobra roadsters expressly for the purpose of converting them into replica Daytona coupes. It is possible that what we have here is a situation where he sold such a car as a project rather than a completed vehicle. But until we know the VIN on Mr. Voyazides' car, we won't know for sure. It should be interesting to learn more details.

I knew this would come up at some point, so while I was having a look over it the Brands Masters meet took this ......

   (CSX2604)

TLegate

This car was covered in C&SC mag recently. The chassis number crossed the water, the rest of the parts didn't.....(okay, mybe the engine did)

There will be many more to follow! Six built and all 18 are racing :) What's not to like?

That is a very fair point Ned, the guys who were looking after the car said they built it from scratch .

In this case, a 'new' CSX number was used by McCluskey not an 'old' original roadster number. [:o)]

rstainer

The ACOC register records this car as being a 'Replica Daytona coupe. Body/chassis unit believed constructed by Mike McCluskey. Remainder built by Plan B Motorsport Ltd (Bruce Stevens)', construction completed this year, VIN asserted CSX2604.

Is it a 'continuation' car? Defining a 'continuation car' as a vehicle built to similar specification to a Thames Ditton cobra the answer is yes. Volume continuation builders include Mike McCluskey, Lech Kowlaski (CaroCars), Superformance, Kirkham etc. Another 'continuation' definition would give a different result.

Anyone is free to use a CSXNNNN VIN provided that it is not the identity of another existing vehicle. 2605, 6, 7 etc are all up for grabs.
