Unlock car without a key

Fun times having had some of the wiring checked by a local Car electrician with some sucess getting a few items working and altering the wiring to the Coil pack. Success is small but at least when you press the window washers button the engine at least keeps running and heated front screen now works [:D]. No having to pray that the fans for the heater might breath slightly on the drivers side to clear the screen.

The electricians have found that the cable from the latch is slightly to short in that you can lock the car door but on the third or fourth pull on the drivers side door handle the car unlocks.

   Is this Common?

Not personally experienced door unlocking problem. What have you done to solve the problem?

For the record the miniscual movement of air generated by the heater fan is not ducted to the screen - that's why car has a heated screen.

Was with Neil Fisher this morning and looks like the cable has been kinked when the interior door panel was removed to check the window motor.
As the cable is only a thin wire you cannot straighten the cable , so have to replace with a new cable. The cable is from a Granada and will start checking on line sites to see what is available

Somebody must have been heavy-handed to kink cable - its pretty stiff piano wire. The cable was available from Ford dealers until few years ago when I bought a spare. If it helps nos on the label are - 92GB A218A01 AB & Y10283 002

If you have trouble sourcing cable, maybe you could go 'custom'; I have repaired many car window regulators with stainless cable from Tecni-Cable, they sell a variety of thicknesses, strength/flexibilty variants, as well as all the crimps & nipples you might need, and cable outers, although these aren`t listed on their online catalogue.

Unfortunately cable has a molded plastic fitting at lock mechanism.
