The man is full of himself, the 289 Cobra is the AC Zephyr car in which he installed the 260 motor, otherwise the car was pretty much untouched. A lot of people in the US think Shelby is responsible for the makeover from the Bristol to the MK1 Cobra when really these mods were done by AC when they installed the Zephyr motor which required a longer bonnet and relocation of the steering box. There are a lot of photos to prove it. Let's give credit where credit is due! This does not diminish Shelby's contribution to the Cobra and to AC, without him the company probably wouldn't have survived as long as it did. The Cobra put AC on the map in the sixties.
