Mystery door handle identification

By the way, the door lock is from a Golf 1 or Golf 2, difference between both is the plastic insert which is white or black, both will work, sometimes "France" or "Germany" is stamped into the lock, so if you have a preference..... [:D]
   
   The striker bolts loose their plastic damper ring during the years, the doors and locks will start to rattle then and the door will scratch on the body at the rear top of the door sealing flange and damage the paint.
   
   The striker bolt you should order from Golf 1 !!
   
   The Golf 2 part is different a bit, the hex part of the bolt is longer in center line direction and the threaded part is the same amount shorter as the hex is longer, this means you wont find the thread of the moving nut behind the body with the Golf2 striker bolt.

In relation to this thread and going back to the door opening handle question, can anyone tell me if there is a retaining clip on the rear to hold the actual handle housing firm in the door card? If so does anyone know a make/pt no?

There is no separate retaining clip needed or existing. The handle housing slides into the door beam bracket, pushed to its lowest end position where it is fixed by the metalwork of the beam brackets and the beam itself. The integrated clips sitting on the housing slide rails do not work becuse they just clip to the door of the onor car where the handle housin is mounted and slided into position lengthwise and not downwards as it is in the MK IV.
   Even if these clips do not work, the cover will locate the handle housing to the door panel after assembly avoiding upside down movement. The vertical  forces applied to the housing during lever actuation are close to zero, so the bezel is working great as final fixation element.

   My side impact bars don't have those brackets welded on to them.
   
   Would you have any further images or dimensions to help with the design and fit of a set?

At the moment I don't have access to the car, it is at the paint shop. Should be possible to take some measurements next week.
