Ethanol

I cannot believe this problem is not being given more prominence now, in the likes of the motoring press, websites etc. Some seem to be saying to just sit back and see what happens to your engine over the longer term, others even infer the problem is exaggerated! As for additives, they may be 'recommended' but do they actually neutralise the ethanol?

My understanding is that the ethanol degrades over time ie in storage over the winter. This then leads to  the fuel becoming more acidic and therefore corrosive. The fuel additives available stabilize the fuel and stop or slow down this degradation process.

The FBHVC have now published their findings on a long term test of fuel additives and I
beliveve that they found three products that succeeded in dealing with the common ethanol problems. The information can be found on their website, already linked to by Administrator
   in the earlier post.
