Greyhound Differential Housing

The threaded section of the "nose" to the differential on my Greyhound has cracked, as shown on the attached photo.
Although it should be possible for it to be welded up, Hardy Engineering, who have dismantled it, regard it as something of a design issue, which needs to be strengthened lest it happen again. They wonder about the possibility of constructing a mount wrapping round the diff case to provide additional rigidity.
Has anyone experienced the same problem and tried strengthening the design in any way?
Any thoughts most welcome!

I am not an experienced  with this car but i suspect this is an ENV or Moss housing not designed by AC, it will fit the casing which is part of the chassis assembly!
You will need to identify which casing it is & determine if a spare assembly is available!
If ENV then maybe the 2-Litre casing might fit?

The G'hound diff. nose is ENV. It was also used by contemporary Volvos. I suppose Amazon and /or 122. Not a straight swop as their ratio was lower than the G'hound. In addition the threaded mount used on the A.C. might not be part of the Volvo application. The 2 Litre Saloon has an earlier ENV diff. which will not fit.

Latest on this is that the existing casing is deemed beyond repair. I have located another Amazon ENV casing, but that would need to be adapted to take the front mounting, which is problematic as it is cast iron. Latest plan is to adapt a MGA diff, which has similar dimensions - and would have the benefit of enabling different ratios.
Has anyone tied this or anything similar??

Latest on this is that I eventually found a firm which built up the original casing so as to avoid the weak spot.
Photo attached. I am now in the process of refitting the differential, and am somewhat foxed as to hold the rear spacers, which go in the voids at the back of the diff, in place while the unit is fitted. Once it is in place, there is no room to insert the spacers, so as far as I can see they need somehow to be held in place by something pretty thin which can then be removed (?how) once the differential is in place and the mounting bolts have been inserted. Any thoughts welcome!

It cannot be too difficult as I had my G'hound diff in an out and do not recollect a problem. Maybe you need some 'bullets' that will centre up the spacers as you tap the bolts through ?

Many thanks Barrie. I was thinking pf something along those lines, but there is limited space to then remove them. Perhaps a short piece of rubber fuel hose might work. I'll report back!

I just do not remember how much space there is, but as you are inserting a bolt there must be a nut that has to go in there ? If the bullet is made short enough it should just drop free as it clears the bracket....
