Engine - Serial numbers

Can anyone tell me where to find the engine serial number on a Bristol D2 engine if the brass placard is missing from the valve cover?  Also, pictures would be greatly appreciated.  They can be sent to bonanza55@yahoo.com

Rob, the engine number would also have to be stamped in the following locations:
   
   - the right hand side of the engine, at the back, near the bellhousing
   - the left hand side of the cylinder head (probably twice)
   
   In addition, if the gearbox is original to the engine, a number quite close to or even exactly the same as the engine number should be stamped on the right hand side of the gearbox. You have to be under the car to be able to see it. An example: engine 100 D 650, gearbox BW CR 12 650.
   
   As far as I know there is no difference in stamping locations between 100 D and 100 D2 engine types. Only the letter D and digits got a bit smaller on later engines.

   Please Ignore this Post.  Incorrect.... All 100D & 100D2 blocks have 7 Core Plugs...[:I]
   
   To complement the post by Jerry  (BEX316),  Early 100D Engines had 4 core plugs in the block on the Exhuast side, whereas later 100D and D2
   Blocks  were fitted with 7 Core plugs.
   
   On all blocks one of these core plugs supported a adaptor so house the water temperature sender.
   
   Not sure date change took place,  I do know BEX333 is fitted with 100D664 which has 7 core plugs and later engines also had 7 core plugs.
   
   Any body any idea when change took place?..  and block number ..[?]

   I have to check my FACts, as a very reliable source has queried my post. re:  number of Core Plugs in Bristol 100D/D2 Blocks..[?]
   
   Will speak to Tony Byford my engine builder to substantiate or correct my posting,  In the meantime good luck with the Bristol Lump.

   All 100D and D2 Blocks have 7 core plugs
   
   Whilst 100A and 100B blocks have 4 core plugs with a few very late 100B2 blocks have 7 core plugs.
