probably 225 hp, torque @300ft lbs

Unless earlier 302 had less umph, would have thought figures a bit on the low side. For a stock 95 302 automatic AFR quote 179 rear wheel hp @ 4500 & 226 torque @ 4000. Factor in 0.7 transmission lost and you get around 250 and 322. Just my penny's worth.

   Max,
the stock carb units were rated at 200 hp, the 86 & 87 stock FI was 225 although I'm not sure if that was rear wheel or not. Seller of mine listed it at 270, but I believe it to be bone stock (except for missing silencers..mmmmm.got to start looking for those one day)  I'm not sure if BA zinged them or not, perhaps Mark IV can lend a hand here.

My apologies Jim – I should have appreciated you'd have greater knowledge of US STUFF than I.

Talking of power outputs; just read an article about the (new?) Jegs/Kaase heads in which they're talking hp figures that sound crazy to me. They took a 100,000 mile Mustang fitted it with Jeg/Kaase heads, 256 degree cam and Holley Systemax intake and claim it made 424 hp and 389 torque. Throwing caution to the wind, they followed this with a further dyno test with Elelbrock Victor intake and Holley 750 (carb?) and recorded 511 hp @ 7800!! By their own admission, they expected the engine to blow – but 511 hp? Would I be right in thinking to achieve even the more modest 424 hp output would have meant a serious loss of power at the bottom end?

Max, there are people on this side of the pond running all sorts of combos up to and including positive displacement superchargers and if built right that kind of hp is possible. Longevity may be questionable...but I'm told these 302 small blocks are fairly tough. i personally know of one fellow witha reproduction Cobra has been running a kenne bell on a modified 302 that he claims dynos at 475hp for 8 years and he doesn't spare the gas pedal. of couse they are not daily drivers here either.
