diff oil leak

i have a cobra 427 replica with a oil leak on the back of the diff i have removed most of the bits and pieces to drop the rear suspension,realeased the drive shafts from the hubs , but the steel plate covering the dif will not drop down.does the prop shaft have to be disconeted

Which brand? if it's a Kirkham or a CSX4*** with an alloy diff, they have omitted O rings on each sides so if you have too much oil it will leak. Also the early castings are porous and need to be shot-pinned and painted.
