I've always bunged the bearing spec or identifier into google with much success, if that fails go to Obsolete Bearings UK.

Cheers will try that, just thought maybe a member may know of stocks or even the club.

Ian Strange (www.ac2litre.com) recommends NKE Bearings in Norwich.

I would have replied earlier but have been travelling, the Post War inner Timken Taper Roller bearing is I understand obsolete, it has a very odd bore/shaft diameter! I have had prices for them of over £80+ from Henderson bearings who at the time located I believe seven bearings, unfortunately that was more than two years ago!
I did suggest to Steve Hall that anybody scrapping Post War axles save the bearings if they are good!
The Stub Axle project which was started more than three years ago took this issue into account in the axle re-design so that current available bearings could be specified with the slightly larger axle diameter, this increase in diameter was specified also for PVT axles as well as ensuring root radi were maximised to match the Timken bearing specifications.
Therefore a stronger axle was planned together with current available bearings, the outer bearing is also difficult to obtain & expensive if you find any, but there are similar bearings that can be used of the same load characteristics, if I remember they are slightly shorter on the inner race!
So in the longer term & if you need new axles then suitable bearings will be available.
You will need to discuss availability with Steve Hall!

Hi Robin

I have found some at £150 for the Outers and £120 for the Inners, available from obsolete bearings. However I have remembered that I have a stash of AC 2 litre Hubs that I got from the AC some time ago, these may have some in, I will have to check them later this week and I maybe to wash them out and re-grease? or try to extract the bearings with out damaging them.

   Cheers anyway

If you want to test used bearings, then clean all the old grease from them, lightly oil and blow them round using compressed air. Any problem with the bearing then becomes immediately obvious.

Ian Strange talks about two different inner bearing sizes on his website. Just maybe the fractionally larger inner bearing could be held in with Loctite. Worth investigating?

Yes I noticed that on the AC2 website but he is referring to the rear axle not the front.

Will be having a look at my collection of Hubs later.

Obsolete bearings have them at £150 and £120  a side so £540 plus VAT an axle.

I have a look at my stock of hubs and found at least 4 seems to have all the bearings in, so next step will be to clean them and check, if any good re pack in grease and bag up. If enough ok and I have a spare set I will offer the others to any member requiring them.
