Having just seen an Ace Bristol for sale here locally for £139,000, I was wondering if anyone  knows if my old  Ace, WKJ 555 with AC engine,  is still in existence. The car  was silver grey in those days. I bought it in Maidenhead,  and  motored many happy miles mostly  with the hood down, until 1959, when I sold it for the princely sum of £120, in part exchange I am ashamed to say for a red TR4.

AC Ace Bristol

Hi Andrew

Upon consulting the AC Ace register  ... AE104 registered WKJ555 left Thames Ditton on 10th November 1955 (Silver with Blue interior) destined for new owner via  Johnson & Brown.

At some stage in it's life it lost it's original AC engine No CL2215 and was fitted with a 3.4 Jaguar engine, it was also resprayed Blue.

   Last known owner was a Mr P Dixon .... Date / Location .. [?]

Hopefully, Tim Isles the official AC Ace Registrar has more details and can confirm if this Ace still exists.  In the meantime, Could you please email a few pictures of WKJ555 when owned by your goodself, That's assuming you have the odd photo stashed away in a old album or draw  [;)]

Could that be a TR3 instead of a TR4 or was it a few years later than 1959 since the TR4 was introduced in 1961?

Right, might now have got it correct.
WKJ  555 was bought in Maidenhead  probably late '58 or early '60. It was then silver with blue upholstery and had an AC engine. I sold it  --- so my lady wife tells me probably in 1962, which would tally with Jerry's comments about TR4 production. A lovely motor, and a real 'looker'.  I have 'pics' which I will try to find Keith .  Andrew

Spoke to Tim Isles the ACOC Ace registrar, who confirms Ace WKJ555 AE104 was bought by a non ACOC member in 1994 at Christies Auction.

The Ace was in need of restoration and was fitted with a 2.6 nose.

No further information recorded of this Ace, Tim to try and contact last know owner to establish progress of restoration and wether vehicle exists....  evidentely it is not taxed or SORN'd so could have been sold, exported or simply wearing a different registration number. [?]

   Cheers for Now
