Pascal,
We reused the hinged part of the hoop so my old ones are no good.

Have a look at www.brasscraft.co.uk. They do parts for Cobra replicas but will know whether the hood hoops for an Ace are the same.

Ben

Pascal,

Thank you for the lead to Liverpool Motorworks. My tools are currently in an old wine box so I could use the upgrade.

As to the size of the spanners mine are:
1/4W-5/16W
7/16W-1/2W
1/2W-9/16W
5/8W-11/16W

While all Garrington Merlin they are of two different styles and I doubt whether they are original to the car.

Ben

Pascal,
Just further to Keith's point I don't think that even all the flat screens were exactly the same size and the shape of the back of the soft top hood depends on whether the car has a "long" or "short" boot/ trunk.

For what it's worth I am 6 foot tall and couldn't sit in my Ace with the hood up. I ended up having taller hood hoops made up and a new hood to fit.

Regards,
Ben Morgan
PS Even with a new hood you still get wet

Pascal,
Congratulations on your purchase.
I am by no means an authority on ACs but here is a list of the tools I believe were supplied with an Ace.

Four Garrington open-ended spanners in Whitworth sizes.
A wood handled 8" Jenbro screwdriver
Jenbro 6" pliers
Spark plug box spanner and crossbar
Brake adjust spanner
Brake bleed spanner

The last two items have been the subject of discussion on the Forum in the past and batches of them have been remade to the original specification.

I was intrigued by your reference to buying a tool bag from Liverpool Works.
Has someone remade the tool bag? If so could you post their web site or contact details.

Ben Morgan

They do come up on e bay from time to time.

Also there are other very similar period bottle jacks. The web site www.classic-British-car-jacks.uk has details.

Yes, I believe that the Moss gearboxes are the same but the Ace had a hydraulically operated clutch.

For what it's worth AEX146 has the single SU pump which was bought from Burlen. It is attached to the rear bulkhead and seems to work ok. See photo.
My car also tends to overfuelling and needs adjustment of the carbs.

Ben

Thank you John for last night's interesting and enjoyable presentation "AC Cars Around Thames Ditton". The presentation was done in conjunction with the local history society and was very well attended.

Thank you also for your continued contributions to ACtion which I always look forward to reading.

Kind regards,
Ben Morgan

Eddie,
When this subject came up before the suggested answer was that WT might stand for Wellworthy which was a piston manufacturer originally based in Lymington. The company merged with other British piston/ piston ring specialists into  Associated Engineering Group in the late 1940s.

My Ace also has Low and High tone horns. I think they are Lucas WT614s.

The web site www.classic-British-car-jacks.uk has information on which jacks went with which cars.
#12
Finish Line Accessories in California used to have them.

It will be interesting to see what this project sells for relative to "the mortal remains" of RS 5032 which sold recently in the U.K. The Ford engined Ace is much rarer and had its original engine but there seems to be more of this one.

Europa Spares and Brasscraft (www.brasscraft.co.uk)
