Thanks for the info so far,  hopefully we can confirm.
I only know of one place that will service these rams, and they are on the West Coast of the USA, so not so convenient...... is there anywhere in the UK ?

Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Roof hydraulic rams

Hi everyone, Seasons Greetings !

Does anyone know of a source for the roof hydraulic rams? Or at least what other cars they were used on?
I have identified a small leak on one of mine, may just be the joint, I have not investigated fur5er yet to see, but would be handy to know where to look for replacements if needed.

Many thanks,
Nev

Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Re: Tyres
June 22, 2022, 18:03:47

I was looking at tyres earlier this year, due to a pin prick on edge of front tyre, that a few years ago would be repairable with a patch, but now the tyre shops won't patch it.
so wanting to keep all 4 tyres the same, and the Toyo Proxes no longer available in the se sizes, I did some measurements and looked at other options. I cam up with the idea of a slightly wider rear tyre, and found these are available:

   2 x Yokohama A008P (Porsche) 225/50 R16 W (92), Asymmetrical
2 x Yokohama A008P (Porsche (N0)) 245/45 R16 W (94), Asymmetrical

So I go them, and had them fitted to my spare set of alloys after getting those refurbed.  Not gone far on them yet, but no problems, fit nicely, and look good, they have a more traditional tread pattern.

Ah, I assumed all Aces had the same tank from new, here are pics of my original one, one showing the split where it opened up to leak.

Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / E10 and E5 petrol

So, I have decided to just use the 98 Ron petrol in the Ace, and notrisk using the new petrol, seems a sensible and safe move.

Hi Max, interesting, as  I am not seeing any Mk2 fiesta expansion tanks on ebay, but quite a few for the other Mk's, which are different.

Either way, if anyone would like to order an aluminium one, then let me know, available powder coated in black, or as base aluminium.

Yes, the sight window is in the silver ring fitting. Note the complete unit has been pressure tested to double what it needs to be  and of course the cap should vent if needed. I bought a new cap just so it was shiny, and these are readily available.

The original is from the mk 2 fiesta, and I could bot find any new replacements, only originals for silly money, that were also cracked, or broken in some other way, and due to age, very likely to split as mine had.

Photos of my header tank below.......

Re fuel, I'm just sticking with  the higher octane petrol.

I thought this would be of interest to the current owner of the Aceca that is in the cover photo of one of the Shell Drivers Club guides for East Africa,  from the 50's (ish), that have from when my mum was there as a child. It is a red car and the last digit on the reg pate looks to be a '3', so I think it is AE547, GO94 0L3. If the current owner would like, I can take a decent photo of it and email over. I will try to attach a photo here also....

I can now report that I have a lovely new aluminium header tank, made bespoke for me. More can be made as needed, the more made at one go the better value each one will be, so when other owners need a replacement, probably better to be pre-emptive, then I can coordinate a bulk order.......

I have photos, and will remind myself on how to post them on here.

The previous owner of my car did a lot of work re springs etc (calculations etc etc) , he was an engineer and seems to have been a bit of an expert on this topic. I can have a look through the file and share info. I had a leaking shock, so went for the set up that Redline have specc'd and had made, I now a couple of other members have the same set up , seems good, I have never experienced the thumping, but I don't think  this one has never done it since George put on the revised coils and springs he had made up.

Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Radiator expansion tank
August 23, 2021, 20:15:00
My Radiator expansion tank has split, due to age and heat and is weeping water once fully warmed up. I tried a temporary repair with some mouldable glue, but to no avail.
The good news however is that I have found someone to make me a replacement, in aluminium, so hopefully this will be ready to be able to come and spectate at Goodwood, but there is a risk it will take a bit longer to fabricate.
The other good news is that , if fully happy with it, and I am sure I will be, I will be able to coordinate upgraded replacement tanks for the Ac Brooklands for other owners.
Will keep you all posted.
