I would be interested as well, assuming they are the same for an Ace?
Good luck

If anyone is in need of several meters of new, purple red Furflex - please don't hesitate to ask me. I couldn't use it. First is the colour, wich is not identical with maroon and second it was not possible to fit anywhere on my car because of it's thickness! I fitted self made ones all around, made from 6 and 8 mm rubber tubes and wrapped leather in the right colour. Now I'm satisfied  :)

I had the same problem with my Healey some time ago (only 2 carbs). He asked for a slightly pulled choke to run equally. At the end it was a loosened screw wich fix the needle in the piston. The shoulder of the needle should be flush with the bottom of the piston. It was about 2-3 mm the needle had come out. Easy to control or to fix - just open the bell housing on the carb and pull the piston.

Hi Vince, Hi John!

Thanks a lot for your warm words. Yes, the colour Maroon is original, as is the leather of the seats. After several months of looking for a saddler (they all wanted to make new covers instead of preparing the old ones) I did it by myself. It took me more than a year (with breaks) to soften the leather from the backside until it was usable again. It's good for the soul when someone appreciates the work  :D. But as you can probably see, it has a unique interior equipment - all prepared from Ken Rudd in his back then shop. So there is a drivers seat and a small bench for the co-driver. That required a change of the handbreak mechanism to the cane brake principle. As the second Aceca ever built, it has a lot of small differences compared to later cars. For example it is completely missing some cold air inlets. There is only one tube from the right front wheel arch to the heater, presumably one has thought, if the water cycle in the heater is cut off, the heater remains cold - as will the air..... what a fault!

If anyone wants more details or some exchange of pics or thoughts, you can write to me via  gies@berosafe.de

Hello folks,

this is just to keep you informed, that AC Aceca AE 501 is back on the road!  8)
Finally after 20 years of restauration (and other life circumstances) I managed to finish the project - nearly. There is still a grinding noise coming from the left rear brake backplate when cornering to the right, a hard vibration between 1800 and 2000 revs, still some air in the breaking system (thanks to the horror of bleeding the rear ones) and an incredible heat in the foot boxes. So any further ideas are still very welcome!

But closing the project I didn't want to miss to say a big "THANK YOU" to all my brave helpers - maybe with parts, maybe with tips, maybe with ideas and discussions.
Than there were in random order: Ken Rudd (RIP), Rod Briggs, Brian Eacott, Luke Sowemimo, Peter Kelb, Mike Otto, Jan Cruysberg, Gerd Klöckner and so many more.
Thanks guys, stay healthy and farther happy motoring!

Chris

Hi Joe,

is it possible to see a picture? - not sure to understand it right.
In my knowing the offset of the yokes will cause vibration problems.

Dear fastpace,

the engine mounts seem to be ok for the Weller engine. The foot boxes must have been expanded to fit the V8. Same as with my car AEX 201, where they tried to fit a Corvette engine. The mounts for the original Mossbox seem to be in place as well, but the accelerator pedal is not original. And there is a strange stiffening plate in the middle of pictures 9 and 10 on the inside of the rear wishbone?

BE CAREFUL!

At least from the wiring and switches it should be impossible to engage reverse, if the overdrive is switched on! If you do this, you will certainly kill your overdrive. The planetary gears in overdrives are intended for rotation in just one direction! If you use reverse with overdrive, the gears will stuck and that makes the judder feeling.
So normaly you should have electric switches on top of the box wich allow overdrive engagement only in 3. and 4.

Best wishes

Wonderful story, and a very, very nice place to fit the radio  ;D

Best of luck for all your efforts! I'm sure the club will help in many things!

.....wie unsportlich, einfach den Entlüfternippel zu verlängern!

.....it's not fair but clever to have the bleeding nipple elongated!      My hands are not able to reach them in original shape ;-))

... they call it "used" condition  :-\
I would say "hardly disused"............. 8)

Hello all together!

I want to change the bleeders on my Aceca's drum brake cylinders. Does anyone know about the threads I need?

Thanks a lot for every hint    (by the way.....should be the same as used for the callipers on later cars with discs in front?)
