for my prewar AC I had one made by a specialist in Germany - he can do almost anything either by drawing or sample and pricing is very reasonable: https://www.taflexa.de  Might be worth to contact them.

I understand your point! I have seen the original central mount at another car and this seems to be more appropriate to cope with lateral chassis flex. Might there be someone who could provide a picture of the engine mounts in the saloon?

   thanks for the advice. I have taken out the engine again today. I have taken a few pictures. The plate will also be removed and I now have to think about making a bracket from the bushes used for the plate to the bellhousing of the gearbox. Is there anyone out there who could provide a picture of the bracket used in the saloon? I would suspect to be different from the one used in the Ace (picture below).

   that´s right: Postwar engine in the PVT chassis. The bush in the gearbox shaft is only used the first few millimeters when the plate is attached, so plenty of space left for the spigot. In order to avoid the machining of the bell housing I might need another support or a plate of less thickness. I can nderstand now, that some support might be helpful!?

   L571 (AC special) should have UMB526 (missing as the genuine body), currently has CL2322. Spare engine UMB2015W (reconditioned).

Hello - that might be a nice item and indeed, one might be tempted to use is straight as it is... Nevertheless, I would recommand to have a service before using such an "old" new stock item. I have just taken my (prewar-)speedo to a local expert for instruments here in germany. He showed me the inside of a similar Smith speedo. He pointed out, that it can work for a few miles, before either the mechanism inside will colide due to a loss of oil (e.g. after 50 years of storage...), or the Speedo-cable will break. The bill for repairing a damaged speedo will be much higher than have a service beforehand, as mechanical spares especially for the clock are getting rare - at least on the continent .... I was convinced by seeing the inside of the speedo - for me, it looked rather like a old watch before the electronics took over. Just my opinion and experience of having used (and broken) a "NOS-speedo" bought in Beaulieu this year... Regards from germany

Thanks for the very fast response! I already got a wiring loom by Auto Sparks with a "out of focus"-copy of the appropriate AC-diagram. My main task is now to identify the colour codes of the wires in the loom.  As far as I know, there has been no standard Lucas code for pre-war cars. I haven´t decided yet about the regulator - my prefered option is to keep it as genuine as possible. The indicator will be wired separatly form the loom as they have to comply with rather tight german regulation... Thanks for the offer of the Wolseley circuits, but I might have the same book ;-)

Dear Experts,
   I hope that is the right forum for my question.
   
   The AC engine in my car is connected to the gearbox via a mounting plate, which is attatched to the frame via a rubber mounting.
   
   It looks rather genuine for me and I have seen similar mountings in fellow AC prewar cars. As the plate is 5mm (sorry for the metric...), it increased the distance between the crankshaft and the bearing in the gearbox.
   Is there any experience about the need for this plate? It has been pointed out by a fellow expert, that it is not needed at all. The engine would than be supported only via the front mountings and the rear gearbox mounting. Will the engine be strong enough e.g. to cope with the flexing of the frame?

   after some years of rebuilding my AC (Chassis no. L571), I am now looking for a wiring diagram to sort out the electrical connection. Could any expert assist with a wiring diagram? The car has been rebuild in form of a 2-seater Roadster, so any diagram (e.g. 16/60, 16/70 or 16/80) would be most helpful.
