Can't help you on other matters but I did investigate the under bumper lights recently for another reason.
I discovered that they were supplied obviously in pairs but oddly they were often fitted as fog on nearside and spot on the offside.
They were known as 'Square Eights'. Originals were all chrome but the later versions had a black plastic body. I even managed to find a part number as they were manufactured by Lucas. However, when I contacted Lucas I was told they hadn't been made for a few years. In the end I counted myself very lucky to pick up a very smart pair on ebay for approx 150 US $
I have seen others on ebay UK since and also on the elan.net site as they were fitted to Lotus Elan +2's and many of those cars are parted out these days.
