Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Re: Tyres

Although this thread is a bit old, I can advise that Manxlowflyer (see below in thread and many other threads) fitted four Davanti 225/55WR16 tyres to his (and now my) car in June 2022, at 26,101 miles.  So, the same tyre all around.  The car drives and handles well on these and - now at 30,000+miles, they are wearing well.  So that is a potential solution (and means that your spare fits any of the wheels - always a bonus).  When compared with SatNav, the speedo reading and mileometer are spot on, right through the speed range (to the legal limit, of course!).

According to Historics website, the car sold for £21,736.  Not sure if that was hammer price or including seller's premium.

Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Re: Air conditioning gas
February 05, 2026, 14:34:34
Hello,

As mentioned in my article in ACtion, a couple of editions ago, I have got my air conditioning up and running.  My local classic car specialist garage said that the system should have 750 grams of R134a refrigerant.  That is what they put in and, when I have got the heater control turned right down (check that the heater valve in the engine bay is actually fully closed), the air conditioning is suitably chilly.

Hope that works for you?

Hello All. I realise that time has moved on. I now own DE1024 - Manxlowflyer's car, now back on original UK registration M50ACE. Unsurprisingly, the hood is erratic in operation - like it operates if it feels like it, rather than when I need it to.  However, I have found that the handbrake warning light on the dash doesn't come on, as it should when handbrake applied, so I'm guessing that the handbrake microswitch is the cause of the grief?  Can anyone tell me just exactly where the  handbrake microswitch is located?  Thanks. I'm looking forward to working with you guys, to get this car back to top notch.
