Good info, thanks for that.
The greyhound looks the part on the car so those who want one can have one even if they weren't on every car.

I've just read about someone who wrapped theirs in denso tape then with home made gaiters from an old leather jacket.

I like the idea and look of gaiters and properly and tightly wrapped should keep any water out.

I think this is the way I'll go.

Until tomorrow and I change my mind.😂

Thanks for your input everyone.

They look great, I bet they're quite expensive to be so good.

I've been looking at Denso tape wrapped to seal in grease. They may not look as good but serve the same purpose if they stay wrapped!

I'll check out Wefco. Thanks.

I've seen leather ones on other cars Col and they look good. Maybe there are standard sizes made as the leaf springs were bought in.
Being oily I can see why the road dirt will stick to them and act like a grinding paste. I'd worry a wrapping would cone loose but leather covers would be secure. I'll look into it.

No it's not. It's two overlapping Ls.

There's LL on its rump, AC logo in small letters on the side and Greyhound of the Road under its feet. There is a number on the other side but I've omitted that as it's specific to my example.

It's a lovely thing.

I don't suppose I will do massive mileages so perhaps it won't be worth it.

Doesn't it keep oil on springs and stop squeaking?

Hi,
What do you think of wrapping leaf springs? is it a good idea and if so what with and how is it done?

I'm just refitting mine with new shackle pins and re bushed shackles. see photos of the massive wear in the bush and pins. the shackle on the left has a new bush, on the right shows the wear.

I'm having a short run of radiator mascots cast from my original Louis Lejeune greyhound. They're triple chrome plated bronze and will be either mounted on a timber plinth or on a radiator cap, I had some brass copies of my original example made. They will be able to be taken off the plinth and to be mounted on a car if you have a radiator cap but I fancied one to look at in my house and a replica if I was concerned about having my original one stolen.

The proof sample is being finished now and on first inspection it's very good. When I see the finished sample and it's ok it shouldn't be too long for them to be available. There aren't that many of them but they will be good.

I've attached a photo of the radiator caps with my original that was copied, going to be chrome plated next week.

Some are already spoken for but if anyone is interested in having one for their car or desk/mantlepiece just let me know.

thanks Colin, i'd be very interested to chat with someone who has already done a restoration on one of these cars. I appreciate your assistance.

You are close, just down the M1 a bit, I'm new to this, I do't know how to send a message but please do and we'll have a get together.

Thanks again

Hi, I bought the AC in the auction, I don't know if I paid too much but I wanted the car. Ill enjoy restoring it and driving it.

There's a fair bit of work to do, I can replace any of the timberwork that's been wood wormed, dashboard is already out and I'm refinishing it. Andre Hartford shocks already dismantled, rebuilt and re bushed. The engine was replaced in 1971 because the casting went porous, then set up etc by an ex AC employee working in Thames Ditton. I spoke to the lady who owned it today and she used to have a brochure showing this car in the London Motor Show at Olympia.

It came with loads of spares, a set of wheels, extra engine, extra set bumpers two extra dash boards, extra bonnet, 4 extra bell housings, loads of engine parts, 2 extra crankshafts, too many to list but i am short of some parts. Maybe someone wants a swap or sell? I still need to go through it all.

I need pedals, radiator cap preferably with the greyhound, dashboard dials, I have the speedo, ammeter and fuel so I need clock, ignition , water temp, oil pressure and the rich?weak knob. and warning lights.  If someone could enlighten me to what warning lights it should have I'd appreciative it. Also the knob to open the vent in front of the windscreen.

I'm in Yorkshire nr Wetherby so if anyone has recommendations for an upholsterer and someone for the respray Id very much appreciative that too.

Here comes pre war AC onership.
