428 Frua Forum / The right engine for the Frua!
August 20, 2007, 06:29:31
Thats right Emmanueld, The original 428 engine fitted to these cars was nothing special in the 428 line up. Just a regular production engine. But even so it still gave excellent performance in that chassis.
Good idea to keep the original engine in the corner just in case someone down the line wants to revert back to original.
You won't regret the upgrade. I exchanged the 428 in my Cobra for a 427 and the difference was like night and day! I love the 427's big bore, short stroke characteristics. A deep breathing highly responsive engine. Really more engine than I can safely handle! and the sound is something else!
Can't wait to hear about yours

   Regards,
           Nigel.

Hi Emmanueld,
Boy! that is going to be one powerhouse which will really wake your Frua up!
I admire what you are doing as I guess most 428 owners would not stray away from absolute originality with such a rare car.
I too love my 427 so I know where you are coming from. Good luck with the engine swap and I look forward to upcoming progress and road test reports.

   Kind Regards,
                 Nigel.

428 Frua Forum / 1965 ac cobra - is it real?
July 20, 2007, 09:06:35
The way I see it Mr CS did not do anything too original himself when he roughly assembled an assortment of everyone elses components to come up with what became the Cobra. I feel I have just followed on in the same tradition.
I agree though! that slab off the side of grandmothers old piano just does not belong. If you are going to do it, it has to be right.
And yes misrepresenting a replica as the real thing is a crime.

   Have a nice weekend all,
                            Nigel.

428 Frua Forum / 1965 ac cobra - is it real?

Well thanks for clearing up my doubt on the question of this forum being replica friendly or not?
I promise not to mention the 'R' word again as I would hate to offend anyone here. I'm here to make friends!

   Regards,
           Nigel.

Thanks Trevor and like yourself I have been captivated by these fiesty little sportscars since my childhood and although we were along way from the action down here in NZ I purchased every magazine I could find to keep up with happenings in the AC / shelby world.
Decades passed and I became qualified as an automotive engineer with the desire to drive a Cobra as strong as ever. Knowing I would  probably never own a genuine CSX car and I guess this is where I should apologise, I set about building a kit car ( sorry all! I am not sure if this site is replica friendly ). I understand.
10 years on I finished the car and my good wife and I are very happy with the end result and it gives us great pleasure on Saturday afternoons in the countryside.
I based it on a 1965 427. I used a correct 427 for power, 4 speed toploader, salsbury 2.88:1 rear axle, Hallibrands and all the authentic bits. Looks good in British racing green.
But now I hanker for a new project and hopefully that will be a frua fastback. A long shot I know but maybe I will get lucky.
I have had much experience with the FE ford engines especially 428 and 427 and always happy to share advice to any fellow big block owners.
   Anyway thanks for the welcome.

   Nigel.

I am new to this forum and it was a nice surprise to see Trevor Legate as a contributor. My kind wife presented me a copy of your book for Christmas 06 and I must say it is the best publication on the subject I had read to date. I have now read it twice. Informative text and beautiful images. Well done! and thankyou.

Hi, I am new to this forum but a long time AC enthusiast. I am searching for a R/H/Drive Frua fastback as a restoration project for myself. I will consider any car as long as it is genuine and complete.
Thanks for your help and I look forward to participating in this forum.
