Thank you for the tip....Cobras are certainly beautiful cars but my knowledge of them is unfortunately limited, so thank you for the useful information.

Thanks again for the information. I understand that the car needs to have an MOT before selling the reg number and I know that the cars information (including the car make and model) is easily available on the DVLA website. At this point  I am only interested to see if there would be a 427 owner who would potentially be interested in the number. If not then I would have to review other avenues for raising funding for the restoration.

Re the car history and registration number: yes, this is a tough decision. I would rather keep it with the car but I also want to fulfil my dad's wishes of having the car restored and be able to enjoy owning it....unfortunately this is a case of catch 22.

Thank you again for your input.

Thank you for the information but my question was: Are there Cobra 427 owners who would be interested in buying the registration number for their car?

Good morning,
Firstly I apologise for the long story but I'd appreciate some advice from Cobra owners.
I have recently inherited a classic car from my father which needs quite a bit of restoration. Just before my dad passed away he started to discuss the car with me saying that he'd like it to be restored but it would take some funding. He then mentioned that the Uk registration plate (427 SPC) may be of interest to 427 Cobra owners and suggested that I look into selling it to help towards restoration costs.
I'd like to know if there is likely to be anyone interested in the registration number and, if so, I'd be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction for the best place for a valuation and to advertise it to Cobra owners.
I've looked online but I don't believe the registration auctions are specialised enough and would attract the right classic car owners who would really appreciate it.
Thank you in advance.
