Your speedo drive original problem is down to the common problem of the direction of winding on the drive cable there are left hand and right hand wound cables so if incorrect cable is fitted for direction of drive they can try and unwind if there is drag in the system.

The Moss box does appear to be a Jaguar unit, the AC Moss boxes were centre lever in top cover and had a different tail housing with a large two bolt hole rear mounting plate cast in.

If you go with a Salisbury final drive, which is possible double check you have the right final drive ratio as there were a large number of ratios used in Jaguars, if you don't check and fit one out of an Automatic XJS for instance we will see you ant Bonneville Salt flats trying to join the 200MPH club!

Interesting, it is at the same stage as two other Toj frames I viewed in the UK.

Could be miles wrong but position of engine mounts make it look like it had a Ford Flathead V8 fitted.

The only crank that I am prepared to let go is a Big nose which has been soft metal sprayed in some of the journals hence the price tag £300.However it would be fitted at the new owners risk. Rough measurements are 2.118 and 1.749 very approximate, it would require a grind.

Other than that I would suggest getting one ordered from Farndon sooner rather than later, they are a good Firm and produce a good product but their lead times can stretch out.

Don't forget to get original Items pressure tested as the quality of casting and material on the May's Heads were not the best in period plus the ravages of time.

General Forum / Long Lost Unknown AC Model?

I think that the Vendor is in a bit of a muddle probably the body style has psychoactive properties!?.

Amazingly Old Brooks Stevens had quite a Client base including:  Bill Cosby, Frank Sinatra, Steve McQueen, Dick Van Dyke, Tony Curtis, Shirley Jones, Sonny and Cher, Dean Martin, Jackie Gleason, Roberto Duran, and Paul Harvey. One of the most enthusiastic owners is Phyllis Diller - she has purchased four of them. The King of Spain was one of our more recent customers!

The original design of the SS was done on the back of a Beer mat, no surprises there then.
But am sure you are all relieved 'No AC Cars'!

The Very early leaf sprung cobra's were in basic design the same as ACE, but there are dimension changes in some components, notably wishbone length, kingpin Dia, and length of transverse leaf spring.
The real changes to construction on components and basic design came about with the introduction of the fitting of the steering rack.

I thought that the Cobra leaf springs were longer than the ACE springs by 2".

The above is the way I understand it so it would be sensible to get conformation from others as well If I am wrong please let me know.

Cobra (Thames Ditton) Forum / 1964 Oil Cooler

We will ask some of our customers if they are interested, if you hear nothing its a no go.

As to your oil temp, If possible you need to up the running temp slightly, If it is running below 80 degrees your oil may not be working to its maximum efficiency ( depending on oil type ). Many of the competition and high performance oils especially the Mineral oils have a large Zinc oxide content to give good Metal to metal protection. The use of zinc oxide in the oil requires the running temp to be above 70-75 degrees to get the oxide working as it should. 90-100 degrees would be preferable under reasonable load on a prolonged run.

Fully synthetic oils are not so sensitive but it is always a good idea to do a little R&D on the oil of your choice.

I hope this is of interest to you.

The Stage 3 Rudspeed/Mays Head can be identified by the fact that the rocker cover is held on buy screws around the mounting flange on to the head instead of central screws/knobs down the centre line attaching to the rocker posts, though this way is not 100% reliable as some stage 1 and 2 heads have been modified to this.

The other method is looking at the Water Pump bypass. on the stage 3 it is cast into the head on the stage 1 and 2 this is achieved via a modification to the thermostat housing.

I hope this is of help.

Original outer wishbone pins are through drilled and fitted with grease nipples with scrolled bronze bushed.
Vesconit is an option and there are numerous other products that can be used.

We do a fully adjustable conversion for the ACE and The ACECA that can be adjusted with out dismantling the wishbone, however we need the car on site to do this.
