The first LeMans Ace, AE205, as documented in the latest ACtion, just sold at Bonhams Monterey auction for $764K all in. I saw this car go thru the restoration at Gassman Automotive, and they did an absolutely amazing job of bringing it back to LeMans spec. A well deserved price, and a record for an AC?

BEX 340 recently sold at auction, and the description states it is accompanied by an "AC Cars Certificate of Authenticity". I have never even heard of this certification before, can anyone lighten me? Who actually issues them?

An AC chassis that is stated as built for an Electric Vehicle prototype was just a no-sale on BAT at over $37K US. I was never even aware that AC was thinking about an EV. Anyone know more history on these?

Maybe this should be in the Cobra forum?

Looks like the car comes with a hard top - did AC ever produce hard tops for the Ace? Or is this an aftermarket one? Almost looks like a top for an SP250.

BEX208 just popped up for sale at Gullwing. Currently running an unknown-brand 6 cylinder, but comes with some Bristol Engine parts, including the correct matching-numbers head.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / ACs at H&H

H&H has an Aceca Bristol (BE681) and what is purported to Ace 2.6 RS5012 coming up for auction later this month. Don't know if anyone here owns either car, curious what the clubs position is on RS5012?

Just saw this Ace coming up for auction:

https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/mo22/monterey/lots/r0011-1955-ac-ace/1229162

Heavily modified, RHD, and the number they list (AE901680) of course doesn't make sense. Anyone recognize this car?

Wish I was in the UK to attend this auction, there is a plethora of ACs being offered:

https://www.bonhams.com/auction/27520/goodwood-members-meeting/?page=2

2.6 Greyhound
Ace
Aceca
Buckland
Frua 428

and not an AC, bit a very AC-looking Aston Martin special.

Man, wish these were in the US!

If anyone happens to have a  Bristol drive train sitting around, this could be a great project! Not many pictures to see what really is or isn't there, and has obviously had some damage to the nose, but nothing that looks impossible.'

Is this a record price for an AC-engined Ace?

While I sadly don't have a 2.6 Ace, I do have 2 Allard Palm Beaches that use the same Ford Zephyr 2.6 engine and gearbox. Both need restoration and engine rebuilds. As the Zephry was never sold here in the US, I have no idea on parts availability. Is there a source in the UK for engine/gearbox parts?

Gullwing Motors has a Buckland on eBay right now. I'm sure it is overpriced as all their stuff is, but here's the link:

An Ace engine has appeared on Bring A Trailer. Not a lot of info supplied, and looks a bit rough.

I see BEX1064 is coming up for auction soon, what a lovely original car! If only I could win the lotto int he next few days...

See page 18 in the-catalog:

Will be very curious to see what it brings!

Does it make any difference how far the thermostat probe bulb goes into the channel in the thermostat housing? See the attached picture. I'm assuming any depth will be fine as the water will encompass the probe no matter how shallow or deep the insertion. Anyone actually know?

#16
I have been unable to get the bulb and capillary thermostat probe removed from my Thermostat housing. Two questions:

1. I've been told it is just a press fit, is this truly the case? I am unable to press it out even after soaking in penetration oil, heating the housing, etc.

2. Are replacements available? If so I can just get a new one for my new housing which is on its way.

Hopefully someone can give me answers! Not much luck on getting replies on this forum aa of late.

I'm looking for anyone who has an Ace with the AC engine, who also has the optional heater. I want to know if the heater output/control from the thermostat housing I have is the standard configuration. Attaching a picture of the arrangement on AEX127. Thanks for any help!

#18
Is there any source for replacement thermostat housings for the AC engine? Mine has a chunk of the inside 'lip" where the thermostat sits missing. I am assuming this let coolant past the thermostat which is why my engine always runs cool. The thermostat itself seems to be working fine.
#19
My Ace has always run cool, so I assume the thermostat is stuck open. Since I have my radiator out now, going to check the thermostat also. See the attached (I hope) picture, does this look like the correct thermostat? How do I remove it to check it? I don't want to just start prying on it and damage anything, so looking for advice!

After a spirited drive yesterday in AEX127, upon return to the garage and parking, I noticed the radiator leaking from somewhere near the top. I drained the radiator in prep for removal and repair, and have removed the nuts from the lower core support, but there seems to be no way to get the upper core support bolts out. The problem is there's no way to get a wrench  on the head of the bolts to keep it from turning due to the flange on the bracket that faces forward and the tight fitting shielding while I remove the nut from inside the engine bay. Anybody done this before and have any suggestions? I can supply pictures if it helps.
