General Forum / Brooklands Double Twelve event
February 08, 2012, 14:02:09
I have been in contact with one of the organisers of the Double Twelve event at Brooklands (Surrey).
   www.brooklandsmuseum.com/index.php?/double12

We have the opportunity for a few of our cars to be part part of a static ACOC display during the weekend of the event. We don't have to have the same cars for both days so you can only do one day if you want. The one requirement from the organisers is we must have at least one club member man the stand at all times. This is because in previous years they've had complaints from the public who have been unable to talk owners / club reps because some clubs have got in for free and then leave their display unmanned.

I would appreciate an indication of interest in order to let Brooklands know. Please email me if you are interested and I will start a list and email the paperwork to you.
   Thanks – John.

I've had a request from a journalist intending to write an article for Classics Monthly. He wants to write a comparison article of the Greyhound and the Jensen 541 and would like a Greyhound for a photoshoot in Colchester (Essex) on 13 November. He does not need to drive the Greyhound, only photograph it.

Please let me know if you can help out.

   Thanks - John.

While not many of us drive our cars though forests, we may enjoy rallying. Forest stages in the UK could be under threat from possible changes.
   The below is FYI.
   Thanks - John.

Urgent action required – Government's Forestry Review Panel
The government's proposed changes to the ownership and management of public forests in England pose a very real danger to UK motor sport – and in particular Stage Rallying.
The Independent Panel established earlier this year to look at the forestry issue and make recommendations to government contains only one representative of leisure users – and that is the Ramblers' Association. Consequently, there is a great danger that the interests of motor sport will not be considered in the panel's final report; the disastrous impact of this would be to risk motor sport being excluded from both the public forest estate and any of the forests transferred into private ownership.
The panel is currently consulting with the general public to find out 'What the forests mean to you?' It is essential that as many people as possible from the motor sport community make their views known to the panel.
THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES IS SUNDAY 31 JULY 2011.
The panel is asking the following questions:
Q1 – What do forests and woods mean to you?
Q2 – What is your vision for the future of England's forests and woods?
Q3 – What do you feel to be the benefits of forests and woods to:
    a) you personally;
    b) society as a whole;
    c) the natural environment; and
    d) the economy?
Q4 – We would like to hear about your suggestions of practical solutions and good practice which can be replicated more widely.
Q5 – What do you see as the priorities and challenges for policy about England's forests and woods?
In order to submit feedback to this consultation, simply send an email to: forestrypanel@defra.gsi.gov.uk, detailing your name and answering as many of the questions as you wish.
PLEASE RESPOND BEFORE THE END OF THIS WEEKEND.
It is essential that as many people as possible emphasise the importance to motor sport of continued access to the public forest estate. If we fail to do this, there is every chance that the requirements of motor sport will simply not be considered by the panel.
A sample response paper can be found on the MSA website with some key issues highlighted that you might like to consider when completing your submission. You do not need to answer all the questions, but please respond in your own words, as this is significantly more impactful than an obviously orchestrated campaign.
Further information about the panel and the consultation process can be found on the defra website.
Many thanks for your assistance in this very important matter.
   Kind regards
   Colin Hilton

Kevin Kivlochan is working the maps this week as co-driver with Shaun Lynn in the Tour Auto over in France - as you are all friends and club members he thought you may like to be kept posted on their progress so I will try to post this update on a daily basis once I have the latest news from the road via Russell Brown. This is an event that Kevin and Shaun have competed in for the last four years and in 2009 they won in Shaun's Ford GT. This year they are competing in Shaun's AC Cobra - 644 CGT (Chassis No 2130).

   Cobra History
Chassis 2130 was the one-off Willment Team Cobra raced in period by Bob Olthoff, amongst others, and more widely known as the "Le Mans Prototype". Shaun has owned this Cobra for around ten years and on the first entry in the Tour Auto in 2007 they finished in 32nd place. In 2008 and 2010 they retired in the lead. Fingers crossed this will be the year for the Cobra.
   http://www.secondstrike.com/Coupe/Olthoff.htm

The main rivals in the Tour Auto are the black Cobra of Ludovic Caron (2008 winner) and the three Ford GTs. There is also the large unknown with Tour Auto where organisers would always prefer a French winner so this will make Shaun and Kevin even more determined to avoid dodgy speed cameras and penalties.

If you would like to check the event website you can find it here (in French)
   http://www.tourauto.com/fr/s01_home/s01p01_home.php

There is also a translated (English) version of the website here:
   http://www.tourauto.com/en/s01_home/s01p01_home.php

   The Schedule:

The cars are gathering in Paris ready for an open day today
Monday - Paris open day in the Jardins des Tuileries
Tuesday - Paris to Poitiers via Le Mans
   Wednesday - Poitiers to Objat
   Thursday - Objat to Bordeaux
   Friday - Bordeaux to Pau
   Saturday - Pau to Biarritz

Interesting Cobra up for sale soon. What I don't understand is if you owned this car, why would you just park it up for the last 30 years ?
