Dear MKIV owners,

This past weekend I participated in the Hilton Head Island Concours d'Elegance in the Club Car Jamboree because my MKIV is not old enough (1972 or older) for the concours event. This year there was a special event called "A British Thing". A couple of years back there was a similar British theme but my Cobra was overlooked instead there were two BMW Minis in the line up. I guess they thought I had a kit car. This year I got lucky, They pick me to be in the parade of 10 British Things. I was the first in line and the first at the podium. I shut off the car and looked at the MC, at that moment I knew I was in trouble. I could see he did not know what the car was. He approached me and ask my name on the PA system then stalled. I figured I had the perfect solution that could not be questioned so I handed him the original window stacker from the Ford dealership with a large AC Logo. He read the first line "1986 Autokraft AC MKIV" then added "a Shelby Cobra replica". I was pissed but did not call he out because I did not want to embarrass him. But he was not done with me. He then told me I had won second place in the Hagerty's award but did not hand me trophy. Later a few of the Host were together in the shade. As I walked past, one commended me on my award. I said thank you but I did not receive anything. He graciously said "OH it is beautiful, lets go get it". Then one of the other host said wait, they made a mistake you did not win.

On the bright side, in Sunday's concours event there were a number of "Real Cobras" both MKII's and MKIII's. Both MKIII's were street versions with no hood scoops and 428's. One belonging to Jim Maxwell is original including the paint. The best was Ron Finger's original USRRC factory race car. My MKIV looked much nicer then any of the original Cobras. There was only one kit car built in 2009 in the entire event but it was in a concour category for modified Fords as a 1967. So my question is should I buy a Pinto or tell them my Cobra is a 1967? [}:)]

I am in the process on installing fuel injection. My buddy leading the project in concerned the existing copper fuel line may not be large enought to deliver the proper volume for the fuel injection system. A 45PSI electric pump is being installed at the tank. Please advise.  [?]

I have a 1986 MK IV with a carburetor. Planning to convert it to www.eightstack.com fuel injection. Does my fuel tank have an existing fuel return fitting? If not, any suggestion how and where I should install one?

This one has a supercharger. Yes, it reads Autocraft. I have aready email the correct spelling. We are not as proper with our diction here in the colonies. Go To: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Shelby-COBRA-MK-IV-1987-AUTOCRAFT-AC-COBRA-MK-IV-STUNNING-/250796861966?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3a64a86a0e [8D]

Has anyone installed the Dynaformance / Accuform Classic Fuel Injection system ( http://classicinjection.com/index.php )? If so, please tell me about the installation, performance and dependability. I am seriously considering this modification to me MKIV.

428 Frua Forum / New Shelby 289 Street Roadster
February 01, 2011, 20:07:11
Well, at times I have been know to stir up some trouble. I received an email from Shelby American introducing their new models. One was a really good looking 50th Anniversary Shelby Cobra. I was told the car was sold out in 48 hours.

   http://www.shelbyautos.com/50th.asp

Since that was no info on the engine I made a call. I was told a 289 was offered either from Ford or an aluminum block from Shelby. I then ask "Who makes the aluminum body"? The man told me they had two sources but Kirkham supplied most on the bodies. I comment that is a well built product then added that I have an Autokraft AC MKIV. There was a period of silence. I could tell he was thinking "What is that?"
I then added "AC in England". The gentleman then said that some of the bodies came from the original source in England. That AC had gone bankrupt in 1961 and Shelby bought the rights to the body.

If you through stone, please don't aim at me.

   Best wishes to all,
   AK1131
my car is aluminum, my boat is fiberglass

My 1986 MkIV is equipped with dual exhaust on the left side. I have seen a couple other MkIV's with this feature. Looks like it is period to the mid 80' models. I have also seen it on Bristols. Personally, I like it. A very nice departure from all the plastics. Does anyone know the history of this design?

   Thanks,
