If anyone has a spare Bristol engine sitting around, there is an Aceca Bristol on eBay right now with some V-8, that is in need of everything:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1961-Bristol/274268558474?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Looks like no data plate present, so no idea what the actual car number may be. Anyone in the area who could check it out???

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ace starter
June 26, 2018, 21:15:00
Looks like the starter on AEX127 is on it's last leg. So my question is, is there an easy replacement item (AH/Jag/MG/etc.) that can just swap in, or will I need to get mine rebuilt?

Anyone know where I can get a harmonic balancer for my AC-engined Ace? Evidently mine has basically disintegrated.

Can anyone verify the carpet and leather arrangement in the Aces? I believe there is carpet that goes on the top of the gas tank, and should there be leather or carpet on the side (that faces the rear)? None of my books give a clear picture or description. Also, I believe the sides of the boot should be 'flocked', is that correct? Any pictures would help!

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ace carpets
February 20, 2018, 19:55:02
All - were the original carpets supplied in Aces made of wool? I know they were edge-bound in leather, and am assuming they were wool, but can find no authoritative reference confirming this. Are pattern carpets available, or do they need to be custom made? My Ace is getting it's paint now after my little mishap last year, and it's looking so good other areas are looking shabby...

Are the small chrome 'ferrules' that go into the doors on an Ace, into which the sidescreen posts slip, available new anywhere? Not sure what they are technically called. I'm thinking new ones might be cheaper than rechroming my existing ones.

10 years ago (!) I posted a thread on this forum about the demister vents on an early flat-screen Ace. I think I have finally found someone who can make them if I can get either pictures or drawings or both. These early cars had vents that were sort of a rectangular block with the vent on top. Seem most cars didn't have this option, I seem to have a 'highly' optioned car with heater, demister vents, and windscreen washer!

Anyone out there with one of these early Aces that can supply pictures or drawings?

As you may know, I crunched the left side door on my Ace. As a possible 'temporary' fix (possibly permanent), I'm wondering if anyone has a left side door from an old abandoned project? Or for the metal workers out there, does anyone have the jigs to make the door frame, and then can also supply a skin that can be rolled and mounted here (US) to get the correct fitment?

Have you guys seen this:

Must admit if I had some extra $$$ I'd be tempted, seems reasonably priced for what it is. Closest I'd ever get to owning a real Cobra, although having driven a real 289, other than the value, I wouldn't trade my Ace for one!

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Crunched my door
April 30, 2017, 16:53:26
After a great drive this morning, when I got back from my  drive, there was someone blocking my driveway who was mowing the grass. I had to stop the car, get out, and wave him down (was on a riding mower with earphones on). When I turn around, the Ace was rolling backwards and hit a concrete wall by the drive. Caught the door which I had left ajar and wrapped it around into the fender. Pretty much ruined my day. Literally all I had to do was park it back in the garage. I don't know it it slipped out of gear or what. Anyway, does anyone know where I might get a left side door, or will it have to be made from scratch? Any recommendation on a restoration shop in the Eastern US, preferably Virginia?

Again, my for my friend who obtained BEX447 - he would like to switch back to a D2 engine as it originally came with, are there any for sale anywhere?

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / BEX447

A friend of mine has just obtained BEX447, which currently has a 260 Ford engine, and supposedly has some racing history. Anyone have any background info/pictured I could pass along? Car was originally sold to Ron Leonard (!) according to the Register. Currently dark blue with red interior, originally white/black.

General Forum / AC Retrospective at Simeone Museum
January 31, 2017, 20:57:21
Just announced:
   https://www.hemmings.com/blog/index.php/2017/01/31/the-simeone-museum-to-feature-ac-cars-retrospective/?refer=hsxweekly

The Simeone is a great museum, unlike typical museums. Located in an industrial part of town, the collection is wonderful, and if you've never been, this would be a great opportunity! Now February - March is not the best weather time, still worth the trip!

Bonham's just sold BEX222 for only about $158K USD, which in my mind is an absolute steal. Granted, it was changed to RHD and doesn't have it's original engine, but I still think whoever bought it got the buy of the decade by at least $100K USD. Hard to figure out what the market really is on these cars! I would have gladly paid that amount....if I actually had the money....

BEX 1054 sold at RM Amelia Island for....$495K USD. Amazing. To be honest, sorry to see our cars reaching these types of numbers. More people will be looking at them as investments, instead of using them as we al love to do.

The steering box on AEX127 seems to be my last point of leakage. How difficult is it to a) remove the box, and b) replace any and all seals? Is this covered in any of the ACtion issues? May be my winter project for the car.
