AC CRS Sells for £12,500!!! [:0][:0]

...Or so it says in this month`s "Classic Cars For Sale " magazine,
as the caption for this photo:

BUT, having picked myself up from the floor in the newsagents, I read the main text, which said:
"Of the post-war sporting stock, an only 12,500 miles since 2000 AC Cobra MkIV went for £35,200"

   PHEW! [8D]
Still seems like a bargain to me, only just making lower estimate.

Details from Classic Cars For Sale.co.uk:

Brightwells Classic and Vintage Auction Results
Auction Date: Wednesday 18 March 2009

   Make:  AC
   Model:  Cobra CRS MkIV Sports
   Price:  £35,200 (approx. €37,481 or $49,213)
   Year:  2000
Price Significant:  Number 6 of 30, carbon-fibre bodywork, inertia reel belts as well as full harnesses, all old MOTs, 2 owners, 12,500m
   Condition Rating:  (condition rating 1.25)
Original, low mileage, would appear to have been only driven in fine weather.

Interestingly, OCTANE Magazine report the mileage somewhat lower and the price slightly higher:"..At the opposite end of the spectrum, a nine-year-old carbon fibre-bodied AC Cobra CRS MkIV with just 1200 miles on the clock was also hotly contested before finally being knocked down to a UK collector for £35,700."

This video is obviously several years old, because Here`s AC8998 being repaired at

OK, so you can still find an AC with a V8 NOT signed by Carroll Shelby!!!(Click pic)

   "Quote from eBay ad:
"Carroll Shelby's Personal Pick To Be Number One!!
This is the first SC 427 Cobra built!! CSX-3021 was Carroll's personal pick to represent Shelby America and traveled with a GT-40 in the Cobra Caravan across the USA! This is the first of only two gold Cobra's built. This car has 3,800 original one owner miles!! This car is original, except for one repaint. Original, right down to the tires! This is the car that sold in January and is now being made available due to an up and coming investment opportunity. This car is being offered with the original one owner title, as well as original payment book and dealer purchase order. This is the opportunity to own not only the first SC Cobra, but we feel the BEST SC Cobra.
This car is a very RARE opportunity and very serious investment. Please treat this auction accordingly. Time will not be wasted on games and speculation.
If you want the opportunity to own the best, then the time is now!
...I am representing this car for the investor who purchased it in January but wishes to remain private and has asked me to provide for him the opportunity for this car to be purchased

Vulcan '09 Pledge Campaign

       TIME IS RUNNING OUT

Vulcan XH558 will be grounded forever, unless further funding of £1million is identified by early March. This funding will allow the project to pay its monthly expenses, clear debt and provide a stable financial footing for the future.

But why is your Vulcan so important?
   In a word - EDUCATION!

In line with our motto "Honouring the Past, Inspiring the Future", we returned XH558 to display status for two educational reasons:

To teach Britain's youth about the pivotal role that Britain played in the Western World's defence at a time of political uncertainty and instability

To inspire our children and grandchildren to choose a career in Britain's design, engineering and scientific industries

Vulcan XH558 is not privately owned, but operated as a National Heritage Asset. She belongs to every man, woman and child in Britain and is an iconic and emotive example of Britain's pivotal position in World technology and foreign affairs.

'The Vulcan Effect' is a unique and powerful tool - without your immediate help it will be gone forever.

on eBay I found these rear lamps, currently £17, 2 days remaining.
Here`s the description, click on the pic to go to the auction:

"Here is an original pair of  LUCAS L542 MADE IN ENGLAND rear lamps as fitted to AC COBRA etc.
I have listed these as used but they are in fact new old stock stored in a damp garage. And the backs are a little rusty.
They come complete with rubber bases that have started to split with age.
The chrome is good and the lenses have a nice ruby colour but have minor storage marks.
   They are marked BS 2516 GRADE 1 & BS 2515 GRADE 2.

I know I should get a life, but...
...on eBay I found this poster for the princely sum of £9.99(buy it now).
Here`s the description, click on the pic to go to the auction:

"This is a large (23 x 17 inches) poster, depicting the history of AC Cars from the early days up to the Cobra, Ace, and 3000ME of the 1960s/80s.

Never used, supplied in strong cardboard tube, would look fabulous framed in your study or garage.
ONE ONLY available, first come first served!

I`ve just come across this on eBay, located in Australia. Buy it Now price £35, maybe a little expensive?
Here`s the description, click on the pic to go to the auction:

"This is an original owner handbook titled "AC General Instructions", (no date or publication number is stated), 9" x 6", illustrated and contains 66 pages PLUS 8 page supplement  "For Cars with E.L. Prefix to Chassis No. Only".
The book is complete but some page edges are very tatty and dog-eared etc. There are a few written notes from a previous owner.

An opportunity to obtain an ORIGINAL example of this very rare AC Cars INSTRUCTION BOOK

General Forum / BBC Helicopter Heroes - MkIV accident
September 25, 2008, 11:37:16
Very sad to see an ACOC member hurt and his MkIV Cobra badly damaged when it rolled after hitting a wall, after the National Day at Bolton Abbey.

Fortunately his injuries appear to be surprisingly minor considering the circumstances.
Available to view on the BBC iPlayer until tomorrow, it`s reassuring to see the rescue services so swiftly in attendance and I`m sure we all wish Hayden well, hopefully now fully recovered.
Can anyone(Tony?) give us an update on Hayden`s progress, and whether the AC will, or is, being repaired?
   Nik.

There are 3 Halibrands on eBay at the moment, hurry, 1 day to go!
THIS ONE (click pic) Has an Avon tyre on,  but doesn`t say whether Front or Rear,
(looks like a front to me.)

   whereas THIS Pair(again, clicky piccy)

is described as Front & Rear, but without rubber.

Sadly little other info such as postage, rim size etc. and the guy has zero feedback, but for (currently) £130 for all 3 it`s worth a trip to Hampshire, no?

AC Aceca V8
Considering you won`t get an Ace for twice that(minimum!), £28.95 IS cheap! Shame he can`t change the listing price to the £28,950 that he`s actually asking! It could easily cost that much again to sort properly if the wood is rotting or any other major nasties lurk underneath! Is there an interior? Little bit of damage to the N/S rear wing, otherwise the body looks straight, could be fun with the 289 in.

I was sent a link (thanks, Trevor!) to this gorgeousAce Bristol Zagato

There are many other AC`s listed HERE:, from a 1936 16/80 to the 2000 212 S/C but conspicuous by their absence are the original Cobras!!!
