Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Re: Aceca seat tracks

Both seats have the lever on the left side.

Hi Jim,
Sorry for the late response. The pieces of wood on the runners are only fitted on the outer (door) sides. This was for pinning in place the carpet side pieces on the seat. The tunnel sides seems to have done without.
Regards, Luke.

I've double checked and a 5/8" master cylinder is correct for a 1955 car with a Moss gearbox.
#4
Are the master and slave cylinders of the correct size?
Master 5/8", slave 7/8"
If the sizes are incorrect you may not be getting enough travel on the release bearing,
meaning that the clutch is not fully disengaging.
I'm afraid that the shape of the Aceca bulkhead makes it impossible to withdraw the gearbox far enough into the driving compartment to expose the clutch.

Hi Eddie,
The original door cards are made from approx 4mm thick plywood, covered in leather with no padding.
It's hard to tell from your photos but is there some padding under the leather on your car?

The original fuel lines were made from wire reinforced plastic, similar to this.https://www.svb24.com/en/steel-wire-reinforced-pvc-hose.html
However, none of the currently available versions of this tube are suitable for use with petrol containing ethanol.
I would suggest using a suitable reinforced rubber fuel hose, such as this type.https://www.carbuilder.com/us/ethanol-proof-fuel-hose-8mm-516

It rather looks like the nut has been overtightened and this has distorted both the brass olive and the copper tube.
If possible I would suggest cutting off the damaged section and fitting a new olive. Also a copper pipe here isn't
the best choice due to the risk of a vibration induced failure.

If you over grease the front hubs or the front kingpins on Ace/Aceca the grease can end up inside the front brake drums.
I removed the drums form an Ace Bristol with exactly this problem, due to a previous owner who had regularly and enthusiastically
been greasing every nipple on the car. The front drums and linings were totally coated with the burnt grease. The car didn't stop
very well either. :D

According to the instructions supplied with Burlen rebuild kits for AUC 700 carbs,
a 7/16 (11mm) diameter rod should be used. This measurement is for when the
needle valve is on it's seat.

The filter should have a quick dip in light oil or a coat of spray oil made for foam air cleaners.
Like this one. https://www.motul.com/ee/en/products/a2-air-filter-oil-spray

General Discussion / Frédéric Delaere
February 28, 2023, 21:32:08
It's with great regret that I'm passing on the sad news of the death of Frédéric Delaere.
Frédéric who died earlier this month was a well known Belgium based restorer of AC and
Aston Martin cars. I know that Frédéric was known to many in ACOC circles, both in the UK
and on the continent. He was a regular attendee at Beaulieu autojumble and often met up
with other club members there.

I first met Frédéric in 2010 and we co-operated on several AC projects since that time. I always
found him to be very conscientious and helpful and nothing was ever too much trouble, especially
when it came to making sure every last detail on an AC, was as close as possible to when it left
Thames Ditton.

Frédéric will be greatly missed by his family and also by the many clients who's cars he either restored
or worked on.

I'd also recommend Martin Jay. He usually has everything in stock and is willing to offer help or advice.

General Discussion / Re: AC Cobra 289 Glovebox
February 19, 2023, 11:20:42
The piping is made from a separate strip of leather, which is sewn onto the main piece that's covering the front of the glove box door.
This is similar to what's shown in the middle diagram from your examples. The only difference is that the main door covering leather
section is trimmed off just behind the stitching and is not wrapped and tacked around the rear face of the door. Also the piping leather
is skived down to the minimum so that the two layers tacked to the rear of the door are only 1mm thick. Due to this section being so
thin there wasn't any need to pad under the inner covering board.

I posted some photos of an original 289 glove box door in an old thread here.

I hope the above helps,
Luke.
