rear axle bearing

Dear all

In my 1933 AC I currently have the rear axles removed. See pictures.
I wonder if there should be a ring to protect the axle to move outside. The bearing can't move but how can I be sure the axle isn't moving through the bearing?
Are there pictures of the axles they used in 1933?
